Beer and Breweries, Halifax

In many of the local pubs there is a custom called "Sociable". Usually it's started by a member of the band but it can happen anywhere. Someone raises their glass and hollers out "SOCIABLE"!!!!! and everyone else raises their glass and calls it back and every one drinks. Kind of like "Cheers!" :)

Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale is made in Halifax, and it's very popular all over the Maritimes. If you visit Halifax, you've got to try it! I like it, I'm not much of a beer person myself but I love Keith's.

Also, in the fall (I think in October), Alexander Keith's birthday is celebrated (even though he's long dead). Not just in Halifax though, it's celebrated in many parts of the Maritimes (but I think Halifax's celebrations are the biggest). Keith's beer is somewhat of an icon for the Maritime area, especially Halifax.
