Lower Deck, The, Halifax
We liked the Lower Deck so much we went back there our last night in Halifax. Not only was the "Alexander Keith's Beef Stew", served in a bowl of bread, out of this world, but around 10 p.m., a band called Signal Hill started playing live music (a combination of traditional songs and pop hits from the '80s and '90s). We stayed until the wee hours, very glad to have picked this place for our final night. Great food, great atmosphere... What more could one ask for?
This is my favorite bar in Canada. The magic of the Lower Deck is its kitchen party atmosphere. There will be hundreds of people in the place yet it will feel very intimate. Each night there is a band playing East Coast and more recent hits. Bands start every night at 9:45pm and go until 12:45am. If you're lucky, you can catch McGinty who have been playing East Coast music together for 25 years. Get to this place before 8pm or you won't get a good seat.
My favorite spot is the Lower Deck without a doubt.
It is a great spot for tourists because everyone is so friendly and the music is great. You will get a real taste of Maritime music and hospitality at this pub. In the summer when the deck is open you can sit next to the Harbour and listen to great tunes and drink great Maritime beer.
Dress Code: The dress code is casual. Almost anything goes. There is a kitchen party feeling at this pub and everyone is welcome.
