Boondock's is a little off the beaten track. It's out in Eastern Passage on the Dartmouth Side of the harbour at the Fishermen's Village area but is well worth a drive. The restaurant is next to the harbour looking over the cove and beach area. Lots of windows make it bright and airy. The restaurant is decorated in a nautical theme and the tables and chairs are wooden. The eating space is large and there's a large outdoor patio for sunny summer days and evenings though the breeze off the water may be a bit cool. The tables and chairs on the patio are patio furniture type with plastic chairs. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. Lots of parking. When you're finished you can have a walk around some of the local craft shops or take photos in the picturesque working fishing village or maybe have an ice cream and walk along the boardwalk.
The menu has lots of seafood on it, fish, shellfish especially and you can also get fresh lobster in season. They have great ribs, steaks, burgers and chicken as well so there's something for everyone including a small number of vegetarian options. There are starters and salads and sandwiches for a lighter appetite.
Prices are reasonable and you get quite a bit for your money. Food is always fresh and well presented. It's one of the places we go regularly for a meal out.
Favorite Dish:
Excellent Maple BBQ ribs. Excellent fish and chips. Very nice chowders. There's more on the menu than what's on the website.
I liked Boondock's and Salty's the best.
Salty's had a great window view at night.
Both Salty's and Boondock's had GREAT FOOD!
Favorite Dish:
The chowder was great at both places.
At Salty's I had a Lobster Ravioli type dish with melted cheese sauce it was to die for!
I ate as much as I could but I never can eat as much as I want...LOL. .
Boondocks Dining Room & Lounge
Dine while overlooking the picturesque Halifax harbour. Yes, I know it's technically not in Halifax but it was a great restaurant near Halifax! That counts doesn't it? If not try Murphy's on the Water at the Cable Wharf (www.murphysonthewater.com)
Favorite Dish:
Shrimp Salad Sandwich and their seafood bisque
