McKelvies: Not worth the effort
We had the crab cakes for dinner. Having lived in Maryland for a number of years, we know crab cakes. These were OK but nothing to write home about. The service was good with very little wait for our dinner. Prices were a bit steep, however you are in a prime waterfront location in a large city.
The biggest problem we had was after dinner. We got back to our car and foumd the window broken and our laptop computer gone. This was in a lighted and patroled parking lot across from the restaurant. According to the locals, this is common in Halifax. Most of them have been robbed at least once. One we talked to was robbed twice in two weeks.
The police came and we filed a report. However they told us that the chances of recovering our computer were nil. We had planned to be in Halifax a few days but once we got the window fixed we left as soon as possible. We spent a great week up in PEI instead of Halifax and had no problems. My suggestion, skip Halifax!

McKelvie's: Seafood a must
You cannot come to the coast without having seafood and McKelvie's probably as the best around. It's built into an old fire station on Bedford Row very near the waterfront. The decor is really nice, with high ceilings, cubby holes and lovely tables and table linen. They specialize in seafood and lobster, their motto bing "Delicious Fishes Dishes!"
Favorite Dish: Seafood. Lobster. Fish. Shellfish. Pasta. It's all good and all melt in your mouth! Medium priced, good wine list.
