Pógue Fadó is an Irish Pub & Restaurant at the major downtown shopping street. They have either the TV on or life music (the local roulating club circuit). Atmosphere is excellent and friendly waitresses.
In the back is a small stage and dance floor. Up front are tables seperated by headboards to create some privacy.
There is a restaurant space on Barrington street that has had many different establishments and none of them never seemed to last long. Pogue Fado has been in that space now for a few years so hopefully it is doing well enough to last because it's not bad at all. The space is dark and deep, with booths and tables and a small sidewalk space for a couple of tables in the summer. I wouldn't necessarily recommend that though, because it's noisy and you get a lot of fumes from the cars and busses along busy Barrington Street. Some live music on weekends, fairly good menu with some Irish specialties.
Favorite Dish:
I've had a few items that i've enjoyed. Fish and Chips is always a good specialty and their Irish stew is nice too. Menu available on the website
Pogue Fado is an Irish pub on Barrington Street (downtown Halifax). I went there twice and really liked it. The interior looks like a typical pub, and the service is good. It can get crowded and noisy later in the evening, but that's one of the charms of a pub! On some nights they also have live music, though I didn't stick around for it.
Favorite Dish:
I had the fish and chips one night, and the chicken strips with fries the next night. I liked both meals, and it wasn't too expensive. And of course, being in Halifax, I had to have Keith's beer along with it!
Irish themed Bar/Restaurant. They serve good Guinness here, and thats about it.
If you order anything with chips (fries) they come really heavily salted, so be sure to tell them no salt, I was there a few times and they had ran out of Keiths, the best local beer you can get. If you want an Irish themed bar, try The Old Triangle instead.
