    To and from the airport

Halifax International Airport is about a 20-30 minute drive from the city. They put it out there to get away from the fog but fog still happens! Anyway, there's a regularly schedule Airport shuttle run by Maritime Bus that you can get from the airport to various downtownHalifax hotels with only one stop in a Dartmouth hotel just outside of the main city. Current 2014 prices are $22 each way. These are all Canadian dollars by the way. Taxis and Limos are another alternative and are a bit pricey (about $50-65 into the city). There are of course rental car kiosks at the newly renovated airport. See the website for schedule and stops.

The shuttle is very good. It runs nearly 24 hours, aside from a window between approximately 12:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. when there are no arriving or departing flights. You do have to buy the tickets either at the transportation booth in the airport or online. You can't buy tickets from the driver. This bus also goes to some of the universities. If you need to get into Dartmouth, you might want to consider Metro Transit, the local bus, which takes you to the main Dartmouth transit terminal.

    Airport bus service

Metro Transit has launched an airport service as an alternative to the airport shuttle that services downtown hotels. It's a low floor accessible bus and has just a few stops between the airport and downtown. It stops in Fall River, at the Dartmouth terminal and behind Scotia Square. Cost is $3.25 for adults and students and a little less for children and seniors.

Be warned, though, there is very limited luggage space! You also have to put your own bags on and off the bus, drivers will not help you for safety reasons.

If you are getting on or off at Scotia Square, downtown Halifax, the stop is *behind* Scotia Square on Albemarle Street. To get to taxis or other busses you must walk around the corner and down the hill to Barrington Street or go through a back entrance or through the parking garage entrances just down from the bus stop and take the elevator down to the Scotia Square mall are and out onto Barrington Street from there.

At the Dartmouth terminal, busses heading to Halifax stop on the Wyse Road Metro X/Link stop, heading to the airport, they stop in the terminal itself.

    Airporter airport shuttle bus, Halifax

The cheapest way to go from the airport to city is via the Airporter airport shuttle bus services which operate daily from 6am to 1am. The cost is Canadian $24 return and $14 one way. The buses are comfortable and the drivers are friendly. Please refer to the webpage below for more information and schedule.

  • Airport shuttle from and to Halifax

by thekburns Written Sep 21, 2008

I flew home to Halifax from Montreal and was left stranded by the airport bus after midnight on Thursday, September 18, 2008. Since then I have not been able to contact the bus service, as they do not answer their phone. I would advise against using the Halifax airport bus service to and from the city and I think their license should be revoked so that a reliable service can take over.

  • Airporter Mistake

    by merlin32 Written Feb 24, 2008

After taking the airporter I can happily suggest that if you need to get to Halifax or the Airport take a Taxi. Although the airporter offers a cheap transportation service I found that this price is not worth having their irresponsable employees give away your luggage. The airporter belives that their employees are perfect and have not, and will not, and can't make mistakes. Their only suggestion in your troubled time is that you never had any luggage to begin with. Take taxis instead, they might be charge a bit more but its worth it to know your luggage will not be handed out to someone else.
