The Three Most Important things I like to pack

by scottishvisitor

A small rucksack is handy for carrying the things you may need on your days travel. I like to pack some snacks & drinks & usually don't go anywhere without a rain jacket & fleece. Good trainers or walking shoes are essential we did a lot of walking especially in Cape Breton All are available locally Never forget the most important item = my camera extra batteries and spare memory cards.

Take clothing for all seasons

by SoonToBeMrsHawk

SweatshirtShortsWindbreaker We expected the weather to be 60-70 during the day and it was over 80 each day we were there during the last week of September. It was actually hotter in NS than in Pennsylvania where we're from!We had brought mainly pants, so we had to buy some shorts it was so hot.So, depending on what time of year you are going, take one or two items you wouldn't expect to need.

Electricity

For 'grounded' plugs, flat blades (see previous tip), but with round grounding pin plug and receptable with side grounding contacts is used (see picture)An adapter will allow you to plug an appliance designed for one type of outlet into another type of outlet. Despite the fact that more than a dozen different types of plugs are in use, a typical travel adapter kit usually contains about five adapters which are capable of dealing with most of the outlets shown here. Adapters often manage this versatility by bypassing the ground/earth wire. Beware : an adapter by itself will not change the electrical voltage. You must be sure that your appliance can handle different voltages (either automatically or through a voltage switch). If it can't, you will need a voltage converter.

In case you want to bring any electrical appliances with you, here is the system Canada uses : 120 volts and 60 Hz. It is a flat blade attachment plug (see picture)The two-blade plugs are often polarized, with one blade larger than the other. Most outlets are designed to handle these. The larger blade is the neutral side of the current. This is a safety feature intended so the plug can be inserted one way only to reduce the chance of accidental shock. If you try to plug a modern plug into an old-style receptacle for equal size blades, it won't go in unless you file down the larger blade to the older plug size.

The weather

Wondering what the weather is like, and what clothes to bring? Here is a table with the average temperatures (in Celcius) in Halifax :Average temperaturesJanuary min :-7 max :-1February : min :-7 max :1March : min :-4 max :4April : min : 1 max : 9May : min : 5 max : 14June : min :10 max : 19July : min : 14 max : 23August : min : 14 max :23September : min :12 max : 20October : min : 7 max : 14November : min : 2 max : 9December : min : -4 max : 3But the temperature is not the only thing that can influence your stay here. I had a a few days of thick FOG :-(((( The fog did spoil a lot of my roundtrip here. Besides that there is also the rain.... lots of that too :-( But I shouldn't complain too much. I had some gorgeous sunshine also. So please don't this stop you from coming to Nova Scotia, because it really is a beautiful province.
