Since Alliston is the potato capital of Ontario, it hosts a Potato Festival over a weekend every year during the first weekend of August. The main street is closed off for a HUGE parade that takes place on the Friday night, followed by lots of rides and attractions, food, shows, face painting, and flea market that goes on for the whole weekend. There is also a gaming night on the Friday at the arena, and a dance at the fire hall on Saturday night. Children get in for free! For any specific information, you can reach the committee at this number.

I remember having to come here once on a school field trip. It may be something you'd be interested in seeing if you want to learn more about some of Alliston's early settlement. Here are some of the things you'll see if you visit the museum:
*Angus McDonald's 1851 Log Cabin early settlement.
*1858 English barn with displays of early transportation and innovations in farm machinery and practices.
*1915 agricultural fair building
*Opportunities to conduct historical and genealogical research using archival computer systems.
*"Heritage gardens" and parkland for picnics, child's play, tobogganing, etc.
