    Pretty Little Town

by lovemycacti Updated Feb 1, 2004

Definately Paris, Ontario is a great little town to shop with an amazing little downtown. Located just a short 15 minute drive from Brantford, it is a great place to spend a day.

If you only have one day, begin by having breakfast at the Country Grill. This is THE place for breakfast and you'll find all the locals here. This family restaurant

is very affordable, the portions are hearty and the staff and atmosphere are comfortable and friendly.

After breakfast take a stroll downtown Paris. The town of Paris boasts 14 authentic cobblestone buildings, boasts the largest concentration of cobblestone architecture in Canada and hosts a Cobblestone Festival every year in August.

The quaint little family run gift shops, galleries and boutiques are sure to please everyone. You are also sure to see some delightful cobblestone architecture and the 150-year old Arlington Hotel that dominates the area. Have a light lunch at Aromas Cafe - be sure to sit out back on their patio overlooking the Grand River.

Next, get in your car and drive around the town admiring the buildings as they provided the backdrop for some movies, including Shadowbuilder by Bram Stoker.

After your lunch has settled, drive up Grand River Street North until you begin to leave the city on old Hwy 24. Turn left at a sign for a trailer park and follow the windy road about 10 minutes. You'll come to a nature area that has the most amazing wooded trail footpaths. Complete with long walking bridges that run through old marshes.

Do NOT attempt this trail during mosquito season - June-July-August. The rest of the months be sure to bring niger seed as you can feed the wild chickadees right out of your hand. This is a multi-loop trail so bring a compass and plenty of drinking water.

    Six Nations Reservation

by lovemycacti Updated Apr 4, 2011

Brantford is located near one of Canada's largest Iroquois reserves, the Six Nations. Composed of the Mohawk, Cayuga, Oneida, Onondaga, Tuscarora and Senecas. While most of the museums are located in Brantford, a drive out to the reservation itself is worth the 15 minute trip. Be sure to visit Iroqrafts! http://www.iroqrafts.com/ This place will knock your socks off with a unique and affordable shopping experience. Most people drive out to the reserve for cheap cigarettes but don't surpass their tourism/museum centre and gift shops.

I would really recommend that when in Brantford, you visit a charming little town close by called Paris. This town is commonly referred to as one of the prettiest towns in Ontario and certainly in all of Canada. If you would like to know more please visit my Paris Travelogue.
