Even if you have ever remotely followed the sport of hockey, you will have heard the name Wayne Gretzky. a.k.a. "the Great One".
Brantford is where Wayne Gretzky hails from and his parents still live here. His father Walter, is very active in local charities especially the CNIB and is very social. Should you see Walter out and about he's always upbeat and ready for a good chat and is more than generous when it comes to signing autographs.
Be sure to stop by the Wayne Gretzky Sports Complex for a swim or to relax in the sauna or jacuzzi. This complex would be a great idea for kids as well. The indoor swimming area features water depths for all ages, as well as an enclosed water tube slide that starts in the building, goes outside, then wraps back into the building.
Be sure to stop by the lobby where there is a Sports Museum which features some of Brantfords best and memorable sports heroes and moments.
Equipment: Bring your camera and swimsuit.
The thing I like about trails, is that no matter what your age or functionability, this is an activity that everyone can enjoy. Most of the parts are old railway paths that have been converted into trails with cement which makes it easy and enjoyable for people in wheelchairs or motorized scooters.
An added bonus is that most of the trails run by some of Brantford's most notable landmarks and tourist destinations such as the Brantford Charity Casino, Glenhyrst Art Gallery, Bell Homestead, Woodland Cultural Center and more.
Equipment: Essentials: Camera, comfortable walking shoes, water.
Good Idea: Compass, healthy snack, sunglasses, $5, cell phone, small first aid kit.
In Winter: Extra pair of socks, good mittens, warm coat and hat. Some areas allow for cross-country skiing and horseback riding. Call ahead.
In Summer: Mosquito Repellant!!! , Sun block.
