The Grasshopper: Clubbing
Cambridge doesn't have much of a night life. Our night life generally consists of pubs and seedy bars. There are no real "clubs" in this area other then the Grasshopper. This used to be a very low end bar called 69 Pick-ups but a new owner took over and sunk some money into it to transform it into a hip hop dance bar. The only thing being that you can decorate the walls but the former clientelle is the same. If your younger and looking for a place to go this seems to be the only one in town where you can go dance ( as long as you like hip hop). This place seems to see a lot of fights and tends to have a lot of "white gangster wanna be's" in it. I tend to stay far away from here.
Argyle Arms: Scottish Pub
The Argyle Arms is a local Scottish pub. It has a great outdoor patio, and the inside is very cozy. The food is somewhat upper class as opposed to general bar food, so their menu is on the smaller side but it is very tasty. The offer live music as seems to be a big trend in this area since there really are no nightclubs or real bars. Instead they try to cram musicians into tiny spaces that aren't really suited to it- but however. This pub is quaint and is known within the tri-cites of Cambridge/Kitchner/Waterloo for being one of the only authentic Scottish Pubs.
The Groove Kitchen & Music Room: Groovy Grub
This local little bar is a treasure among so many franchises. It is individually owned and operated by a musician who promotes building the local music scene, supporting budding artists by having art shows on rotation on his wall space, and creating a menu that strives for gourmet non-proceesed food. The Groove Ktichen is small and cozy- it only holds about 50-60 people standing or 40 sitting. It's cozy enough that you have to talk to your neighbour yet you can also come in and groove in peace. It is also open during the day for lunch- pull a stool up to the bar and chat with the local staff. They have won numerous awards for their various menu items, best chef, best house band, etc. This place is a really interesting place to visit and get your groove on. They feature such things as bring your own vinyl night on Wednesdays, Acoustic jam night on Tuesdays, have a feature house band every Friday, and a guest spot artist or act every Saturday. Some guest spots have been current Juno award winners.
