Cochrane Things to Do

  • Un-matched Northern Lights

With a sparse population comes the joy of perfectly dark skies at night. This combined with being in a northern region makes for some of the best Northern Lights imaginable.November 2004 has been particularly incredible due to solar activity which leads to these indescribable 'lights in the sky'.In the past few weeks they have been dancing across...

Under previous ownership there was nothing good to say. But now that Peter DeJospeh and his wife have taken over, it is another story. A wider variety of fare, tastier choices and special occasion buffets sprinkled through the year there have been nothing but good comments.

Favorite Dish: I have not sampled too much, but was quite pleased with their chicken caesar sallad.

Check out Mr Moose here - but try not to check him out when he shows up in front of you when you;re going 100 km/h along the highway. Major destruction. Keep a very watchful eye.

Cochrane Warnings and Dangers

I was not sure if this is a danger despite the global concern over West Nile... Once well into spring and into summer, we come to the famous biting-insect season. They really can be a nuisance and can drive a person almost over the edge. The danger is that moose feel the same way and to escape the nasty critters, they go out into the open - like on a highway - where it is impossible to see them at night. Bang-o! Best to be extremely vigilant at this time of year.

Well, this is a new one, to bring a myriad of tourists to town. I cannot yet comment on the quality of the place so we shall see.

Unique Suggestions: There is a pool where you can swim with the bears - there is a glass wall between, so not too worry about becoming polar breakfast.

Fun Alternatives: Gerry Miller's museum in nearby Hunta has rave reviews. In August there is a big open house where he shows off old machinery and memorabilia.
