The old Town Hall
  • Tip Rating:
  • The old Town Hall in the 1890's was also known as the "Market Building" because it housed the Farmers Market, among other things. A "Market Committee" oversaw the market aspect of the building. In the summer of 1904, the committee moved to place a brick walk on the south side of the building to the verandah, to cement the walks under the verandahs and lay a cmnet floor in the rear shop leased by Messrs. Ironside & Fisher. Butchers, Bakers, feed and wood sellers were among the businesses to have booths in the market square.

Well known, that the Hurons told of a sacred place some eight leagues distant. There, stood a rock called Ekarenniondi, marking the path to the Village of the Souls.

Nearby could be found the cabin of Oscotarach, who gazed Eastward toward the approaching souls, and who drew away their memories so they could cross to the afterlife unencumbered.

Since Jean de Brébeuf recorded these tales in 1636, adventurers, archaeologists and historians have sought the legendary crossing place. They finally found it here, high atop Blue Mountain .

Now you can explore it for yourself, and step through the very portal of the underworld.

Collingwood architecture features numerous examples of Victorian, Georgian, Greek Revival and Gothic styles in brick, stone and wood. There are so many beautiful buildings to view but the COLLINGWOOD FEDERAL BUILDING ( 1914 ), the former Collingwood Post Office on Hurontario Street is a "must see".

    MILLENIUM OVERLOOK PARK
  • Tip Rating:
  • Overlooking the beautiful Georgian Bay MILLENIUM OVERLOOK PARK is a must see. You can go for a nice walk and there are also some benches where you can just sit and relax and enjoy the view of the sailboats filling their sails as they make their way out of the historic Collingwood Harbour.

Here, Jacob, Nathalie and Hans are standing in front of this BEATIFUL VICTORIAN BUILDING in Collingwood. The Collingwood Federal Building, built of marble, was inspired by the State Finance building in Havana, Cuba and boasts a rotunda with a large stained glass dome bearing the coats of arms of the four levels of government, including the town of Collingwood.

The scenic caves are definately worth the drive up the winding hills of Collingwood, Ontario to the majestic Blue Mountains.

Have fun exploring the paths, caves, and crevices that are found at Scenic Caves. Easy to make a full day out of it, but two to three hours will give you a good understanding and appreciation for the area.

Recently added is the Suspension Bridge, Ontarios longest at 126 meters long. It is 25 meters above the valley and streams and 300 meters above the Georgian Bay. The cost was over $1 million to make and is not for the weak-hearted as it will sway depending on winds and people on the bridge! You try not to think that a mere 8 centimeters of timber is all there is between you and the ground.

Newly added is Treetop Walking, for $95 per adult this two hour tour walking along suspension cables/bridges between treetops is definately for the brave.

Green season (spring, summer, fall) activities include caves tour, nature trails, suspension bridge, gemstone mining, mini golf, trout pond and picnic areas, and are open from early May to mid October (weather permitting).

Seasonal: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm daily. During the months of July and August, hours our extended from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm . The last admission pass is sold two hours prior to close.

Treetop Walking is open year-round. However, reservations are required.

Adult Cave and Bridge Pass $17.00
Extensive information on their website. There is simply too much to see there, I don't have enough space! So go already!

    Hiking shoes/boots a MUST!
