Dorset , Ontario is a good place to go to see the Fall Colours ( late September or Thanksgiving weekend).
There is also a 30 metre high Lookout Tower
Until 2961 there was a 25 metre high Forest Fire Spotting tower located on the site.
The present tower was built in 1967 for public use.
On a sunny fall weekend the climb to the top can get crowded.
Located on Highway 35 north of Minden and south of Highway 60 leading into Algonquin Park. .

Zachary's is well known to the locals as a good place for coffee and a muffin, or a tea biscuit, or a cooked breakfast. They serve lunch and dinner/supper too, but I've only had the experience of the breakfast. I was there with friends who have been regulars, and it was fun to be where the owner and staff are friendly, and fun to chat with. To go...more

Out in the middle of "cottage country", there is a remarkable store with excellent prices, and sizes for all. My mother's friends have shopped there for years, and I finally encountered it on Sat. The owner, June, and her daughter, Jane, were really excellent in finding clothes that I was really happy with, and very comfortable wearing. And, we were there when some of the stock was 50% off! Can't beat that. Good quality and prices to match.
What to buy: I got some casual wear, but also a couple of outfits for work, or dressier social events.
What to pay: Prices were about what I've paid for lesser quality in Toronto - not cheap, but excellent priced.
Dorset itself is a little village in cottage country. The village itself is not spectacular, but as you could see the surroundings are. It's a perfect spot to fill up your tank and do some shopping. Hahaha, but not here though, because I think this gas station is out of order ;-)Although there isn't much to do in Dorset, it doesn't hurt to walk...more
