As it was supposed to be a bright, sunny day in March, my daughter Nicole and I wanted to take a nice country drive to Essex, Ontario to check out this lovely little town and go out for lunch. We chose the MICHIGAN ROADHOUSE as it had a good variety of selections on its menu. I chose the 3-piece broasted chicken dinner, at $7.95 which came with a generous portion of cole slaw, seasoned potato wedges and roll. Nicole had the chicken pita. She wasn't entirely happy with her meal as she said the chicken tasted like it came out of a can and the bacon was hard to chew. I enjoyed my meal though as the chicken (leg, thigh & breast) was broasted to perfection.
The interior of the restaurant was decorated in a sports theme and was bright and cheery. And also as it is fairly new to the town, was very busy for the Wednesday lunch crowd.
On the weekends a Buffet is offered - Fri. Sat. Sun. 5 p.m. - 9 p.m.

The Dutch people of Essex County have not forgotten that Canadian soldiers, especially the Essex Scottish regiment, fought and died for LIBERATION of their homeland, Holland. This wonderful and my favourite mural, by artists Layne Vanloo, Elaine Guitar and Johanna Johnson, depicts the Canadian arrival in 1945. My husband Hans was born in Delft,...more
Arthur Raines, store owner and Essex mayor, gave penny candy to the children who came to his grocery store with their mothers to buy food from baskets and bins in typical style 85 years ago. The CORNER GROCER mural was done by Bruce Bezaire.Unfortunately the view of the mural was obstructed by a parked car. Next time I'm in Essex, I will definitely...more
