The Thousand Island Skydeck was built on Hill Island in the upper St. Lawrence River region, and thousands of people visit throughout the summer. The Skydeck is situated in the parking lot and has a triple level observation pod, 400ft. above the car park. From the top level of the 3 decks you can see 65 kilometers, in every direction. On a clear day it is said the Prescott-Ogdensburg bridge is visible in the distance. It is located on the Canadian side, between the spans of the 1000 Islands Bridge at Ivy Lea, the tower is situated in the middle of the 1000 islands and provides a birds eye view of all the islands. please visit my travelogue 1000 Islandsfor more pictures. On the top level you can read plaques explaining geopgraphy and other significant facts about what they are viewing. There is also a souvenier shop, currency exchange, cheese and ice cream shop, and a fully licenced restaurant, a playground for children, lawns, and picnic benches. Construction of the Skydeck began in l963 and it opened for business initially in June l965. The shaft has 18inch thick concrete walls, and is 18feet in diameter, while the observation pod, containing the three viewing decks, is 53 feet in diameter at its widest point.
