The Gananoque Boat Line will take you around the islands and swill show you the most famous islands. We toke the three hour tour. The boat was going up the river, closer to the American shore and coming back closer to the Canadian shore. We could see beautiful houses and castles. Not to mention many happy people on the boats and jet skis.

Ok this is a huge statue of a monster Musky.
The St Lawrence river is very famous of the fishing in it. It is not un-common that people catch 40-Lb (20-Kg) and above fish around this area. This monument is erected in memory of the biggest musky ever caught around.
***May to October ONLY***
This was the ONE thing I needed to see when I was in the area, and I was not disappointed!
Bolt Castle, built by the same man who built the Waldorf in NY, is on Heart Island not far from Alexandria Bay, NY. Need passport to visit here
The restoration of this amazing house is unbelievable, but make sure you go to the top floor. The work is in progress and it is neat to see the disrepair and graffiti in the rooms that aren't finished yet!
If you have time, or are a boating enthusiast, there is an option to take a quick side trip to the Yacht House to see the antique boats.
Grab and ice cream or cold drink from White Mountain and wander along the waterfront.
This is also where you can reserve your ferry tickets for the many boat cruises around the area. There is a park and a bandshell for concerts and outdoor events.
One of the best things about southern Ontario is what we entertainment folk call "summer stock" and Gananoque is no different.
The Springer Theatre is a great mid-sized space and usually where their big shows are, currently showing Les Miserables until the end of August. Whereas Firehall Theatre is more of a "black box" and used for smaller productions.
Small and/or quaint casino.... Quite busy especially the slot machines, which far outweigh the tables.
I am not much of a gambler, but I will always go into a casino if there is one to be found!
My quarters, nickles and pennies were eaten up lickity split in this charity casino!
As always in Ontario-- No photo's inside the casino. They WILL take your camera away, so leave it in your bag.
The Thousand Island Skydeck was built on Hill Island in the upper St. Lawrence River region, and thousands of people visit throughout the summer.
The Skydeck is situated in the parking lot and has a triple level observation pod, 400ft. above the car park.
From the top level of the 3 decks you can see 65 kilometers, in every direction. On a clear day it is said the Prescott-Ogdensburg bridge is visible in the distance.
It is located on the Canadian side, between the spans of the 1000 Islands Bridge at Ivy Lea, the tower is situated in the middle of the 1000 islands and provides a birds eye view of all the islands.
please visit my travelogue 1000 Islandsfor more pictures.
On the top level you can read plaques explaining geopgraphy and other significant facts about what they are viewing. There is also a souvenier shop, currency exchange, cheese and ice cream shop, and a fully licenced restaurant, a playground for children, lawns, and picnic benches.
Construction of the Skydeck began in l963 and it opened for business initially in June l965.
The shaft has 18inch thick concrete walls, and is 18feet in diameter, while the observation pod, containing the three viewing decks, is 53 feet in diameter at its widest point.
The tower is open seven days a week from May to October.
The Casino in Gan is way better now that there is a no smoking ban inside. It has slots, some tables, restaurant/bar, free pop/coffee/tea/water at the back. Always giving away prizes. Something to do if you feel like feeding machines your dolla bills!
The Thousand Islands is a truly beautiful area. It is bordered by NY State USA and by the Ontario region on the other. Take a boat tour to visit these charming islands. You'll find them small and big, all enchanting. Houses and cottages make them even more magical. Many celebrities have or had a home here. You can take a tour from Gananoque or Rockport.
Started in 2001 the paintings tell the historical story of Gananoque.
My fav is the one of the towns people attending church in their boats!
If you ave the time, enjoy the 3 hour scenic cruise. We made this trip and had a great time on board!
It's called the river of the thousand island. Some belong to Canada others to the US. If you are on the boat trip you may dream of owning one of theses little places of heaven...
Go Skydiving in Gananoque!! These people are record holders and know what they're doing, and have a great time doing it! Best thing ever!
