    Reading the title you probably have the vision of jumping into a lake and having the flesh stripped of your bones by fuming gases...rest assured...swimming in Acid Lake is a very pleasant experience.

    Acid lake got its name by having a slightly higher acidic water level than surrounding lakes. You need to understand that all lakes in the Haliburton Highlands region are acidic, a result of natural geology and sulphur emissions.

    The lake has the clearest waters I have ever seen in any lake simply because algae cannot grow in the high PH water.

    This lighthouse is the lighthouse of Killarney. It's a small square lighthouse made of wood. The lighthouse borders on Killarney Provincial Park and right behind the lighthouse is the start of a nice hiking trail called the "Tar Vat Trail". You can't visit the lighthouse itself but the grounds are open to the public. It's situated on a rocky surface on the Georgian Bay. From a distance it looks quite picturesque because of the white and red colours and the beautiful red rocks. It's not a huge lighthouse though, it's only 30 meters high. The lighthouse was established in 1866 but the present tower was built in 1909. There is a modern radio tower next to it that takes away a bit of the charm of the lighthouse and makes this old lighthouse look much more modern than it actually is.
