Kinkaku Izakaya: Japanese - all you can eat

by kenHuocj Updated Jan 30, 2015

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

All you can eat from the menu,
    Japanese / Taiwanese owners,

from the original Izakaya, they had to change to get a bigger turnover,
a pity as the choice becomes too many

Favorite Dish: overall we tasted so many that i cannot single our any.
    Needs another visit

The Rum Runner Pub: Amazing food and history

by twilightmuse Written Jun 22, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Don't be fooled by the word Pub as there is nothing pub like in the menu. The food here is gourmet pub food if such a thing exists. The chef here also run the kitchen for the hotel above it which caters to lots of weddings and events. They age their own cheese and smoke their own meat. A burger here is akin to filet mignon.

There is also the sheer history of the place that makes it so cool. It was used during prohabition days for Rum runner's hence the name. There are old safes and tunnels that they kept preserved. They even host Yuk Yuk's here.

the pool room in the pub.

    Pyrus cafe: Vegan galore

by twilightmuse Written Jun 22, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This cafe eatery reminds me of someplace you expect to find in Seattle or Oregon. It is a large cafe that serves all locally sourced ingredients that are fair trade and organic. Everything is vegan. The place is decorated with mis-matched 1970's cast off furniture including the old plaid couch you saw on Roseanne. You can count on there always being punk music playing and the place is always packed with people- most of them have tattoos and facial piercings but there are also suit and tie types that hang out here as well. Must be the free coffee refills and wifi.

Favorite Dish: They make a killer club!

  • Kim King Restaurant: Classic Chinese Food

    by HappyWanderer7 Written Mar 7, 2009

Classic Chinese-Canadian cuisine at great prices. Not one of those big franchise restaurants, just a small mom-and-pop operation. Atmosphere is cozy and quiet, prices are extremely cheap at $5 - $10 CDN per person. I visit this place everytime I'm in Kitchener.

    Favorite Dish: Cantonese Chow Mein

King Wok: Canadian chinese food at it's best

by sunshinegrin Written Jul 18, 2007

The King Wok is somewhere I take my friends and family for good food at a cheap price. The service is awesome. Very friendly. This is not a fancy place by any means. But if you can overlook the artificial flowers and tacky decor, then you are in for some good fresh food.

Lunch ..for just over $5 cdn, you get soup and a choice of meal, which is not a small portion. I recommend the sweet & sour pork with steamed rice and won ton soup.

Dinner..I recommend #7, my fav. substitute the egg roll for the spring roll.

Even the fortune cookies are fresh.

Favorite Dish: As mentioned #7. You will have to try it to know why it is so good.
