Favorite thing: When we got off the highway onto Wellington Street we saw strip mall after strip mall filled with chain restaurants, most of them American chains that we can find, or should I say avoid, back home. Without any real idea of where we were going, we followed the signs for centre ville/town center and found the lovely downtown area with shops and restaurants and interesting buildings. We didn't really have a long time to spend here as we were headed to Niagara Falls and it was already late in the afternoon but we had a pleasant lunch at Smoke's Poutinere, a snack at the Covent Garden market and a stroll through town.

Favorite thing: Located in southwestern Ontario THE THAMES RIVER flows west through the cities of Woodstock, London and Chatham to Lighthouse Cove where it empties into Lake St. Clair.
It was called Askunessippi "the antlered one" by the Odawa and Ojibwa Indians who lived in the area. The river was renamed after the River Thames in England by Lt. Governor John Graves Simcoe in 1793.

Favorite thing: London has two TOURIST INFORMATION CENTERS. One is the Downtown Information Center and is located at 391 Wellington at the corner of Dundas and the second is the Wellington Road Tourist Information Center at 696 Wellington Road South, the one we went to. As Hans and I were spending the day in London, we wanted to see what this lovely city had to offer. There were lots of books and brochures available. Also there were coupon books for restaurants and activities.

Favorite thing: Unfortunately the city has no baseballteam anymore... the AAA-team has been moved a few years ago... but going to Toronto to see theBlue Jays would be the better choice anyway ;o)
Fondest memory: Getting to know how to play ball (i started with softball first, but since u can´t steal bases, i quickly changed to playing the REAL stuff...*lol*) I was impressed how many diamonds (field where u can play baseball/softball) there are in town... in every park, almost at every school... so much for hockey... *lol*
kids from the neighborhood invited me to play or my cousin took me out to one of his games with his buddies... these days i take my cousins kids out to play when i am in town =)
I am not sure... but i think the pic was taken out in St. Thomas, me watching my cousin play with his colleagues from the Free Press...

Favorite thing: Go out and play golf on one of the many beautiful golf courses! For a german, where golf is a sport only for people who can afford outrageous membership and green fees, it is amazingly cheap...
Well, at least try ur luck at the driving range, it is sooooooo much fun...
London has quite a few very good and scenic golf courses, for example the one out at Fanshawe Park or the Thames Valley Golf Course, along the Thames river ( Springbank Park is on the other side...) For families or people who tend to get upset if the numbers on their scorecard are mile high i would suggest to take the golf course at East Park Gardens (Hamilton Road/ Clarke Side Road)... coz there u can cool ur temper in one of those batting cages after a poor round out on the golf course... *lol*
Fondest memory: My uncle and cousin always tried to teach me how to golf... with more or less little success... coz i love baseball and swing for fences... when i hit it goes faaaaar... very far... but i tend to miss the ball very often or torture the grass...

Fondest memory: London has lots of beautiful parks! When i was a kid, i used to love Springbank Park/Storybook Gardens, Victoria Park (i think there is still that tank i used to climb on... hehe) and Labatt Park! U can easily walk for hours from one park to another, it is sooo relaxing... even today when i come to London, i HAVE to walk at least once from one end of Springbank Park to the other! It became a tradition...
London´s parks host a lot of events as well, can´t really remember all, but i know there were always concerts and the balloon festival in Labatt Park, and markets on weekends in Victoria Park.
Victoria Park is downtown, corner of Richmond and Queen St. if i remember correctly...
Springbank Park can be accessed by car via Springbank Drive or u can walk from one end (Wonderland Road/Springbank Drive) to the other end (Commissioners Road/Springbank Drive)
