Victoria Park is 18 acres in downtown London. We walked through it a few times. As advertised, there are a lot of squirrels hanging about -- and the mandatory statues and war monuments.

We saw the park being used as a place to hold a demonstration (on the anniversary of 9/11), as an open-house to encourage interest in the Canadian Military, and as a place to hold a free concert -- all this during a two-week visit in September.

We were told of other uses as well - ice-skating in winter, various festivals - including the "International Food festival".

Victoria Park has quite the history, which you can read from it's own website. Primarily, the park used to be the barracks for a British Garrison sent to protect Upper Canada after the 1837 Rebellion and the against the Americans during their Civil War. The barracks were also used to house ex-slaves who arrived via the underground railway. The land was donated to the city of London in 1874.

If you’re here around Christmas time, check out the Christmas light display in Victoria Park. Get a pair of ice skates and skate around the outdoor rink admiring the beautiful lights. Sorry, I don’t have a pic of this, but it really is beautiful
