There are several duty free shops in the Niagara region that are open year round. Visitors will enjoy the wide variety of quality goods that these shops offer, including liquor, beer, wine, cosmetics, jewellery, fragrances, tobacco, souvenirs and much more. All goods purchased are duty and tax free. Be sure to take advantage of the instant visitor tax refund and the currency exchange services. A small duty free shop across the street from HRC.
Here, non-resident visitors can receive the Goods and Services Tax (GST, 7%) paid back in cash by presenting the receipts.
In some cases, the Ontario Provincial Sales Tax (PST, 8%) is also paid back.
Conditions for Instant Rebate:
1) Accommodation "room charges" and "goods" receipts must total $200.00 before taxes.
2) However, for a "goods" receipt to qualify, each receipt must be $50.00 or more, before taxes.

The souvenir shops around Niagara sell the tackiest merchandise you will ever see. When I was there with my cousin we had our own competition to see who could find the tackiest souvenir. You really have to go to understand what I am talking about!
