The light display on the falls is a must-see thing and is absolutly beautiful! The fireworks are the best I've ever seen! And just strolling through town at night is a whole new and wonderful experience!
It is definately worth checking out the Falls at night. Both the American and the Canadian falls are lits up with rotating colors. For an extra treat, go see them on a Friday or Sunday night. They hold a fireworks show right over the Canadian side. (Only during the months between May and September)

One of the most spectacular sites I’ve seen is that of the falls illuminated and colored at night. As night falls, colored lights shine on the water with the colors constantly changing, giving it an otherworld look. This goes on till quite late and people walk the paths till midnight and beyond. Below is a schedule of the times for the lights
January... .... 7:00 PM-9:30 PM
February .. ....7:00 PM-9:30 PM
March ...........7:00 PM-10:00 PM
April ...... .......8:30 PM-11:00 PM
May ......... .....9:00 PM-midnight
June .......... ...9:00 PM-midnight
July ........... ....9:00 PM-midnight
August ..........9:00 PM-midnight
September . .8:00 PM-12:30 AM
October ........ 7:00 PM-Midnight
November ... .6:30 PM- Midnight
December .... 5:00 PM-1:00 AM
They really went crazy on the American Falls with the lights. Not only did the lights change colours here, but look at this! Pink, blue, yellow.... all at the same time! Hahaha, so keep your camera prepared, you won't believe your eyes when seeing this! Tacky Touristy Niagara are the only words I can think of when seeing this, LOL :-))
This is another one of these UFO like pictures. In the background you can see the Skylon Tower. This tower is also nicely lit up, although almost invisible because of those strong beams of light in the foreground.
These lights were aimed at the Horseshoe Falls. But there were not only green lights. They changed colour every few minutes, going from yellow to green to red to every colour imaginable. Hahaha, I have to admit, very tacky, but in a way fun to see. And very romantic too! Imagine a cold night, not many people around (hahaha, it is too cold remember), holding your sweetheart while watching the lights... yep, romantic! :-))
If you walk to the falls at night they are illuminated all different colours for a certain length of time, they look just stunning!
We wandered up looking at them in awe in all their different colours....when we got there they turned them white again!!
Every night, the falls light up around 9 p.m. which makes for a fantastic spectacle! Also, on Fridays and Sundays, fireworks start at 10 p.m. The best place to go to see them is by the river, in front of the American falls.
If you are able to, I highly recommend that you watch the falls lit up at night. They use colour filters, and it is a wonderful sight.
The photo here was taken by my husband with his SLR camera by standing it on the wall, and keeping the shutter open for quite a while.
When the nightly light show begins and both the Horseshoe and American Falls are illuminated, the entire area is both breathtaking and romantic. The colours constantly change giving a breathtaking performance.
My wife and sat and watched for two hours while eating dinner at the Niagara Park Restaurant, before strolling hand in hand along the river.
The area is illuminated all year round from 5pm in winter until midnight and 9pm in summer until midnight.
The one time when the American Falls are more impressive than the Horseshoe Falls is at night. Although both Falls are illuminated by colorful spotlights from the Canadian shore, all the mist obscures the Horseshoe Falls. The American Falls, however, are quite impressive all lit up like that. Bring your tripod if you want to get a good picture though, because you'll need a slow shutter speed to get a good exposure.
