Helicopter Rides, Niagara Falls
It's expensive and it passes in a second, but it gives another impressive look of the dramatic course of the river.
However, the really smashing sights are taken from below, from the Maid of the Mist.
This ride will give you a great view, not only on the Falls but on the whole area!
Even though it only lasts for about 10 minutes it is definitely worth the money ( 103 Cdn $)!
If you are willing to do so you can even walk down their (which is what we did, and for the way back we took a cab for $ 10) - it's about 20 minutes from Clifton Hill!
This was a truly great way to see the falls. I suppose it was the end of the season when we were there but the weather was good and we didn't have to wait for our flight. It was a great experience and I would reccomend it to anyone.
This company, National Helicopters, operating from the Niagara District Airport (Niagara-on-the-Lake) near all the great wineries, took over the business from Skyway Helicopters. If you can beleive this, they are honouring the old company's bookings. National gives a tour over the Niagara Falls that is the longest ride at a great price. This is definitely the heli tour to go on!
I had never been in a helicopter before so where better than Niagara for a first ride?
It does not last very much (about 12 minutes total flight time), but is worth it as it is a great view. Read the route desciption below.
We were alone in the plane, so we both had an excellent view, it was just too bad the weather was not good. As you can see from the picture the sky was very grey and so was the water. I'd love to try it again in the summer.
It was not expensive either, we paid 75 CAD each.
"Niagara Helicopters" is on the Canadian side.
From the website: "Beginning with the Sir Adam Beck Generating plant and the Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture, the tour follows the Niagara River from the Whirlpool area (look for the Spanish Aero Car crossing the gorge), over the Whirlpool Rapids and the Rainbow Bridge. The green grass and floral beauty of Queen Victoria Park stretches below as the helicopter passes by the American Falls and the Skylon Tower. Just when it looks as if you may reach the Minolta Tower, the helicopter begins to change direction as if following the curve of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls! Rainbows appear and disappear from all directions. The helicopter begins to level off and continue along the route back to base."
If you still haven't had enough after the barrels and the cable car, you can hop aboard a helicopter for a view of the Falls from above. For about 60 dollars you can spend 20 minutes buzzing around Niagara, swooping down over the Gorge, soaring over the Falls and getting your breath back over Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Awesome view from the top, things you wont forget forever. Skyway helicopter got longer flying time than others. It really worth it.
