Horseshoe Falls: Fallsview Casino
Fallsview is NF's newer hotel. It is more closer to the falls. If you don't want to gamble at the casino most of the time, you can see the falls or walk around the beautiful well kept grounds and enjoy the gardens and view of the falls. By far it is the prettier of the two hotels but I think the Casino Niagara has the much better buffet. Fallsview is still in the completion process so maybe down the line will be comparable.

The Canadian Falls is approximately 52 metres(170 ft) high. About 12,000 years ago, Niagara Falls was 11 kilometres (7 miles) downstream from its present location. Until the early 1950s, the Falls eroded at the average rate of one metre (3 feet) per year.

The Canadian Falls, also known as Horseshoe Falls due to its shape, is about 2600 feet wide around the lip and 167 feet tall. It pours approximately 600,000 gallons of water EVERY SECOND. Globally Niagara Falls is the second largest falls next to Victoria Falls in South Africa.

The freshwater that flows over the Falls come from The Great Lakes. Many many moons ago, the falls originated 7 miles downstream, but due to the natural state of erosion, the Falls eroded at the average rate of 3 feet per year. It wasn't until the mid 50s and 60s with the construction of a powerplant and a generating station that the rate of erosion slowed down.

In winter the look of the falls is quite different. If it is cold enough, a toplayer is created while the falls still rush forth underneath, this is often described as an "ice bridge". It has been said that once this was formed people have been know to have walked from one end to the other and back. It was a novelty to tourists to be able to walk and play on the river, however, in 1912 three lives were lost when the ice broke up and walking on the "ice bridge" is prohibited.

In the evening, spotlights of color bathe the falls and a myriad of colors would reflect against the flowing water.

The Canadian Falls, also known as the Horseshoe Falls, are the more spectacular of the two falls.

If you look closely at the photo, you can see the Maid of the Mist disappearing, quite literally, into the mist below the Falls!

Be prepared for the mist...you can get quite wet, even at some distance from the Falls.

The Canadian Falls, sometimes known as the Horseshoe Falls, is the waterfall on the Niagara River, situated on the Canadian side of the border with the United States. They are easily the most impressive of the three falls. Approximately 90% of the water of the Niagara River flows over Horseshoe Falls, while the other 10% flows over the American Falls.

The waterfall curves in a horseshoe-shaped crest that is 671 metres (2,200 ft) in width. At the centre the water is about 3 metres (10 ft) deep. It passes over the crest at a speed of about 32 km/h (20 mph). The falls is 53 metres (173 ft) high, has an average crest elevation of 152 metres (500 ft) and faces northwards. The depth of the river at the base of the falls is actually higher than the falls itself, estimated at 56 metres (184 ft).

The falls are wonderful. You can not get bored watching them or listening to them. Close to the entrance of Behind the Fall, you ca get very closed to the fall without paying anything. You can fell them under you. It's incredible. I spent about 30 minutes just looking and listening to the falls. A sound that I will never forget!

    Horseshoe Falls: The greatest falls
The river splits in two, part of it falling in the American side of the border, and the other in Canadian side. Standing side by side, is in the Canadian part that the view are most impressive, due to the shape of the falls, concentrating in a secluded area the biggest part of the water. Called Horseshoe Falls it’s easy from the air to understand the reason of the name. The Maid of the Mist is an attraction that takes great profit of it, taking you almost to the centre of horseshoe shape.
