Naiagara Pumphouse Visual Art Centre by tpangelinan The Waterworks Pumphouse was built in 1891 and supplied the town with water until 1983. Next to the building is an old gas powered engin built in 1919 that was used as a standby pump. The building s exterior was restored to it's origanal appearance and the inside is now the Niagara Pumphouse Visual Art Centre. This is a school for the kids to learn art and show off their work. We stopped in because it was very hot outside and were supprised at what had been done to the interior and found it rather interesting to look around the gallery. Leave a Comment

by tpangelinan There are many beautiful parks in this area, very well groomed with lots of wonderful flowers, bike paths, park benches and picnic areas to relax in the shade. Everyone seemed to be enjoying them selves and trying to stay out of the sun. We brought our bikes up here and rode around town a little then locked them up and walked around for some shoppingm then the rain came, mad dash back to get the bikes and off to the truck! Niagara on the Lake is home to an annual theater festival called the Shaw Festival. It was begun in 1962 by a Niagara lawyer and playwright. We missed it when we came but I learned a little about it. It is dubbed the Shaw festival because they celebrate specifically the works of Bernard Shaw and his contemporaries. Mainly they are plays about the beginning of the modern world. The season begins in April and runs until around November. If you're in the area and you like theater I'm sure this would be great. pic from flickr by JennysTravels Although they took the Grape out of the title a few years back. There was a huge uproar about it. Us long time festival goers still refer to the festival as The Niagara Grape and Wine Festival. How could it be a wine festival without the Grape? The Niagara Grape & Wine Festival is a non-profit organization that runs a series of seasonal wine festivals in the Niagara region. The Niagara Icewine Festival, the Niagara New Vintage Festival, and the Niagara Wine Festival attract 100,000's of visitors to the area each year. There truly is no better time to explore the 15,000 acres of vineyards in the Niagara Region than during one of our seasonal Grape & Wine Festivals. This year 2007 - the festival runs from September 21 - 30. Enjoy. Leave a Comment
