The Niagara Peninsula in Ontario and the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia are considered cool climate viticulture regions. Temperatures during the fruit-ripening phase are moderate and consistent. These regions are ideally suited for the growing of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling. One of the most well-known wineries in the district is INNISKILLIN which is an Estate Winery offering a variety of wines and icewines. Inniskillin's Vineyard is called the Brae Burn Estate. Hans and I went on a tour of Inniskillin and thoroughly enjoyed it. After the tour Hans bought me a bottle of Riesling which was absolutely wonderful. ICEWINE Grapes are left on the vine well into the winter months. The resulting freezing and thawing of the grapes dehydrates the fruit and concentrates the sugar, acids and extracts in the berries, thereby intensifying the flavours. The finished icewine is intensely sweet and flavourful Leave a Comment Address: Niagara-on-the-LakeDirections: Between Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-LakeWebsite: www.iniskillin.com

Inniskillin Vineyard by tpangelinan Go check out the many vineyards around Niagara on the Lake, this is a fun thing to do for an afternoon activity. We saw the Inniskillin Vineyard and pulled right in, this just happens to be the vinyard of Terry's favorite ice wine so we went for a tour. You can do a self guided for free or guided tour for a price with a wine tasting at the end. The self guided tour takes you through about 20 stations with stations that explain each process from the start of the process to the bottling of the wine. The tour is very interesting and informative and helps you understand why your wine cost so much! At the end of the self guided tour you can go inside for a wine tasting of any type, for a small price of course but well worth it. A must do in this part of Canada! by tpangelinan Go check out Fort George if you are into old forts and history. You can experience the life of a soldier back in 1812 with the daily reinactments, the War of 1812 was fought here where a band of Canadians from all types of back ground banded together to defeat the many invations of the American troups. At one point the Americans did defeat the fort and occupided it for a few months but could never get any more ground and lost again but not before distroying the fort and the town before retreating across the river, then the British defeated Fort Niagara and held it for some time. Like I said lots of interesting history here so go check it out for more info! Leave a Comment

by tpangelinan Take some time to go to sit along to edge of Lake Ontario and watch the sailboats. You may want to pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a snack while soaking up the sun and views! There are plenty of spots to pull off and park for this type of relaxing activity at no cost. The water is so clean and blue and there seem to be an endless amount of sailboats on the Lake at any point. The really isn't any beach that we found around this area to speak of but plenty of grass with wonderful shady trees to sit under and a few benches too. Leave a Comment

Niagara Apothecary by tpangelinan This is a cool place to stop in for some history, this buolding has been around since about 1820 and renovated in 1866 when it was taken over by the apothecary and fitted up with a drug store. It was the one of the oldest and longest continuosly operated pharaceutical pratices in Canada until it closed in 1964. The Ontario Heritage Foundation took it over in 1969. It got a facelift in 1971 and much of the origanal apothecary-ware was re-aquired, this is a neat trip inside. Leave a Comment Address: 5 Queen Street

It is well known that the climate of the Niagara peninsula allows the production of some of the country's best wines. There are about twenty wineries located in Niagara-on-the-Lake, including some of the most renowned Canadian wineries (Jackson-Triggs, Inniskillin, Peller, Hillebrand...). All wineries offer tours and tastings - tastings are usually free of charge when you buy a bottle. Leave a Comment

Visually Addictive! by NC_Ziggy Ok, I didn't stay here, but I can surely imagine how a stay here might be enjoyed! As we parked down the street and walked around, this was the sight that most drew our attention. Partly because of the victorian style architecture but mostly for the striking visuals that the many and prolific flowers afforded. Simply Beautiful! Later, as we strolled past we noticed the detail of the building and a cozy, well-appointed restaurant. I will not create a hotel tip for this place as I feel they should be created only by places that you can provide some actual experience and knowledge, but if you can afford to stay here, I think your stay may be most enjoyable! Let me know, please! ;-) Leave a Comment Address: 6 Picton StreetPhone: 888-669-5566Directions: You can't Miss It!
