Mrs Mitchell's: A Lesson in Great Food in a School house

by CdnJane Updated Jul 25, 2003

In the valley known as Violet Hill, exists 2 popular places - Granny Taught Me How, a shop of all sorts of wonderful items from handmade sweaters, to household gift items, to cards... to specialty food products, and Mrs Mitchells, a lovely restaurant in an old school house serving lunches and dinner. The decor is always done very seasonal, and the menu contains something for most tastes, using Canadian products. There is a big fireplace which is lovely on cold winter days. Saturday nights they have piano and guitar music, and I understand they welcome people to join in with their instruments, or singing.

Favorite Dish: I've never been disappointed with anything I've eaten here, whether its been a luncheon menu or dinner. They have lovely soups, fresh crisp salads, their roasts have been great, chicken dishes... and their desserts are marvellous.

The Globe: An Old Canadian Inn with Good Canadian Ingredients

by CdnJane Written Jul 25, 2003
    Death By Chocolate

The Globe offers in an 1859 inn, a very sophisticated menu of fresh and healthy ingredients. Whether you eat upstairs or down, you can enjoy the atmosphere. They are closed on Tuesdays, but Wed-Mon they are open for lunch, tea and dinner. Reservations are recommended on the weekends. They make their own breads and tea biscuits, and they arrive at your table warm and Mmmmmmmmm YUMMY! Remember, as Mom always said, don't eat too much bread or you won't be able to eat your meal!! Its pretty difficult to remember that. Oh yes, and they serve water with lemon or lime, but also edible flowers.

Favorite Dish: Ok... so you know I love their breads... guess that was a little obvious. I'm not sure what my favourite dish has been there... they seem to add just something a little different to each menu item - perhaps its a vegetable you're not used to seeing, or a seasoning that isn't the norm... so, sometimes you have to try something a little different than what you might normally order because of that. This could be a good thing.
This is a lovely place to be for a pre-Christmas dinner. My family met here one year and the atmosphere, and decoration were like an old fashioned pioneer Christmas.
