    No smoking!

The City of Ottawa Bylaw forbids smoking inside any building. There are some buildings that have limits as to where you can smoke outside as well.

No bars, restaurants, nightclubs etc. allow smoking so if you smoke you gotta take it outside!

Bus shelters are also no-smoking zones.

    Smokers Beware!

Since summer 2001, all restaurants and bars in the Ottawa area are entirely non-smoking by law. This isn't much of a problem in summer, since it's nicer to sit on the patio anyway, but it's pretty unpleasant in winter. Some bars have set up tents over their patios with portable heaters so that the nicotine fiends can sit and puff away to their hearts' content, but frostbite may still be a problem (although better than paying the hefty fine if you get caught smoking indoors).
The new law has made non-smokers like myself VERY happy.....
