" Now the military junta is reducing the internet connection bandwidth and we have to wait for a long time to see a page. Security forces block the route of demonstrations. Yesterday night, the junta announced to people in Rangoon and Mandalay not to leave their houses 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM. I think if the junta decides, they will cut off communication such as internet and telephone lines so that no information can be leaked to the outside world. David, Rangoon "

Luggage and bags:
If you decide to take a trip with Encounters, be sure to pack fairly light because there is not much personal space in the dorms plus you dont want to have to worry about too much on the train.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Be sure to pack enough clothes for the whole week, there is a laundry area but you don't always have access to it when you need it. Also bring something nice for the final dinner. As for shoes, make sure you bring comfortable walking shoes, even if it's just a trip to Ottawa with your family, Ottawa is a large city with lots to do.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Always make sure you have your own toiletries and medical supplies such as band-aids.
The weather in Ottawa is quite extreme:
- Mid summer could reach the mid 30s (average mid to high 20s).
- Mid winter could reach -30s (average -10/-15)
It gets humid in the summer time. Shorts, t-shirts and sandals (thongs for Aussies) are obvious choices, and make sure to bring lots of sunscreen.
Winter: For those of you not used to snow and cold, get used to it. We get enough of both during the winter time, so bring warm sweaters, coats, tuques (also called beanies in Australia), gloves, scarves, waterproof boots, etc.
It rains the most in spring and fall, with reasonable temperatures during the day, but usually chilly at night.
Don't forget insect repellent if you're coming in the summer, those mosquitoes can be horrible!
Pick up a free copy of Tripmag "Toronto and Ontario". It is a useful travel guide for independent travellers about the best that Toronto, Ottawa and Ontario has to offer. It provides informations from the city essentials to the best public transportation tipps.
Tripmag is available for free at the airport, train and bus stations, universities, tourist informations and many more places.

'I have found that great people do have in common
an immense belief in themselves
and in their mission.
They also have great determination
as well as an ability to work hard.
At the crucial moment of decision,
they draw on their accumulated wisdom.
they have integrity. '

Whatever you like depending upon what your doing. Backpacking, camping, RVing, who knows. Ottawa is a large metropolitan city so whatever applies in any city of this typw.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Depends on time of year. It's cold in the winter (-30 C) and warm in the summer (+ 35 C) and of course we have the in between seasons spring and fall where you could get a little of both.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Anything you need is readily available.
Photo Equipment: Fill your boots, bring anything and everything you feel you need for those 'once-of-a-lifetime' pictures.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Again anything you think you need for your choice of activity.

I recommend a good pair of walking shoes because Ottawa has so many things to see that you can just put your car in the parking garage and walk to where ever you want.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Don't forget your sun screen and a hat!
Photo Equipment: I recommend bringing lots of film, because there is always something to remember!
A glimpse of floral trousers showing below the hemline of a bright shiny mac complement Ottawa's flowerstalls. A shoulderbag completes the look.
