Light Boots or hiking shoes, Sweaters, Snow pants, Wind braker pants. Very warm winter coat! This is the most important. You need something light and warm that protects you from the cold wind. The best ones are Columbia, Descent, Convert. Chose one that zippes up to your nose. Also bring gloves. That's if you come during the winter time. Dress in layers.

If you're in Ottawa in the winter time, like most places in Canada for that matter, then bring lots of warm clothes!! Sweaters, pants, winter coat, hats, mitts, scarf, boots etc.
Film and other camera equipment are available everywhere. However, it always seems cheaper to buy film before you go away.
Bring your skates if you wish to skate on the Rideau Canal. Leave a Comment

Ottawa has one of the most messed up climates I can imagine.. It's -30C in the winter (with windchill) and +30C to +40C in the summer (with the humidex).. The humidity is crazy in the summer time: I remember being in a bar in shorts and a tshirt, and having the sweat just bead off my fingertips.. It takes some time to get used to! Bring light clothes in the summer time, and heavy ones in the winter. Leave a Comment

Waterproof shoes, don't forget weatherproof paste. Waterproof coat etc; you will have make your car ice/snow-free more than once.
Anti-flu, anti-cold stuff (I prefer Fisherman's Friend). Some grease for your lipps.
General tips for snow-pictures. In the winter the sun is always low and it is hard to take a good picture of a building at close distance. Long shadows, big difference between black and white. Leave a Comment

a waterproof bag in the winter since it is snowy and wet.
Bring lots of warm clothes, layers are best in cold weather. Also don't forget waterproof boots since the snow turns to sludge. Leave a Comment

Lightweight is best
Winter, dress warmly, sweater, hats mits, it get really freezing! If you are cold, you won't enjoy it! Summer can get really hot! Like right now in June! Bring your skis to Ottawa, as there are great ski hills nearby, like Camp Fortune, Vorlage, Mont Cascades
Nice place in summer for swimming near Ottawa is at Lac Philippe in Quebec, very close to Ottawa Leave a Comment

The weather in Ottawa can be really extreme. In the winter, wear really warm heavy clothes because it is COLD! Temperatures can dip below -30 degrees Celsius (I waited 20 min. for the school bus one time in this temp)! During a summer's day, it can be really hot with temperatures rising above 30 degrees Celsius. But carry a light jacket or sweater around with you if you're going to be out at night. Leave a Comment

If you are going in the winter, bring warm clothes - it's COLD! Also bring proper shoes for walking around in snow - the sidewalks are usually snow-covered. Leave a Comment

For god's sake, bring decent boots in the winter or you will be sliding all over the place and complaining about wet feet. In the summer, bring lightweight clothes because (contrary to popular belief), Ottawa is insanely hot and humid from June - August. Leave a Comment
