Visit Lake on the Mountain Provincial Park

    by L-A Written Jul 23, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This unique lake is 100 feet above Lake Ontario, fed by underground streams. There is also a restaurant here at the lake. This lake is quite deep for such a small body of water.

This lake doesn't have camping, its day use only.

Here is what Ontario Parks says about the lake - Lake on the Mountain is a natural curiosity: it has a constant flow of clean, fresh water, with no apparent source, 60 metres above Lake Ontario. Mohawks offered gifts to its spirits and settlers thought it was bottomless. Come for the view of the Bay of Quinte.

    The Grange of Prince Edward

by Highbrae Written Jan 1, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Of all the wineries, and there are getting to be many. The Grange of Prince Edward has to be very high on my list. The wines are as good as I have tasted from anywhere in the world. Caroline, your hostess will make you feel as though you are a special guest in her home, no matter how busy the day.

If you go, and I can't imagine a trip to Prince Edward County would be complete without a stop. Make sure you have room for some lunch in the wonderful converted barn and room in the trunk for at least a few bottles.

    Winery Tours

by Highbrae Written Oct 20, 2007

Prince Edward County, Ontario is Ontario's newest wine region. For something special try the Apple Ice Wine at County Cider Winery. The only problem is so many, wineries, so little time. Some of the must visits include; The Grange of Prince Edward, By Chadsey's Cairns Winery and Huff Estates. If you are a thirsty traveler, be sure to check out the Barley Days Brewery, The Waring House Inn outside of Picton offers some of their wonderful beer with their menu in the Barley Days Pub.

    Visit Wineries and a cidery

    by L-A Written Jul 23, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There are quite a few wineries in Prince Edward County. Some of these are on the south side near Waupoos Island. We were recommended to go to Waupoos winery/cidery, and they gave us tastes of the ciders for free (The wine tasting costs money). We bought the peach cider and another kind as well. They also have a lovely cafe that you can eat leisurely looking out at Lake Ontario between two vineyards. Pics are to come since I took those by film camera and not digital

    Talk to the locals

    by L-A Written Jul 23, 2006

We saw these women on the Main Street - they were there people watching. We asked them for a good restaurant since Currahs and Portabellas were closed on the Sunday night. They were very friendly and quite helpful. Tony took a pic of them although one of them was quite self conscious.

Looking for something to do on a Saturday night in Picton? Why not take in the Ghost and Gallows Walking Tour? Visit historic Glenwood Cemetery where you will learn about the captains of industry, the scams and scoundrels that called the County home. Visit the gallows at the historic County courthouse. The period costumes of the guides add to the mystery and fun.

  • Artisan Market

by makaryne Written Jul 21, 2012

Canada Day in Picton is full of fun things to do, including a kids carnival at the Delhi Park, Rising Star performances in the park, and Come Alive Outside in Picton's downtown. Not to be missed, however, is the artisan market. Sure, there are veggies and vendors, but the real adventure is in talking with the artisan food, hat, book binders, jewellry makers and cheesemakers about their wares.

    Visit Sandbanks Provincial Park

    by L-A Written Jul 23, 2006

This is a favourite for many people - Sandbanks used to have huge sanddunes. Those are long gone, but the excellent beach is still there, and the waters are shallow quite a bit from the shore. The entrance fee is $12 as of July 2006.

Sandbanks Provincial Park has the world's largest fresh water sand bar and dune system. The park has camping and recreation areas, but we were there to see the dunes.

A nice treat is this small company that makes its own icecream rather than selling the factory made stuff.
