Port Elgin Things to Do

  • Trails

Being up North gives us all the opportunity to become one with nature. In and around Port Elgin are some fabulous bike trails along the lake shore or even through the back woods! There are also many many little 'drivable' roads along the lake shore...Takes you from Port Elgin to SouthHampton (another great little town about 5km outside of Port...

  • The Beach

The beach and the sunsets...THIS is what the town is known for! Since it is located on the shore of the cleanest of the Great Lakes the walks and swims are that much more enjoyable. The sand between your toes, the wind in your hair...The beach will lead you to the town or even through The Harbour. Most folks take out their lawn chairs, or like me,...

  • The Peir

Fishing...Walking...Talking...Diving...it's a great place to do it all. It's simple and calming The waves crashing on the side walls while your walking creates a nice mist which is refreshing on a hot and humid day!

Port Elgin Restaurants

  • Quick and Easy

Wouldn't be a town without the typical restaurants now wouldn't it?!?!?!?! Tim Horton's...coffeeMcDonald's...breakfastPizza Delight...Hawaiian Pizza and salad bar

  • Fish anyone??

Hot,Tasty and always Fresh!! It's a family owned diner type restaurant with a very cozy feel to it. Doesn't matter what you get it's always freshly prepared. The fries are fresh cut not frozen, the veggies are picked from the local farm and not transported from some other city 500km away. I don't have a favorite dish because in my opinion it's all...

Port Elgin Nightlife

  • Dancing...

Little place with plenty of life...Grill during the day and total 'bar scene' at night. The dance floor isn't too big but this is where the 20 somethings like to kick back, dance, listen to music and have a few drinks. Dress code...hmmmmm...as long as you're not naked you're able to enter!

  • A table on the patio perhaps...

Since it is a small town with only 1 gas station you can't expect too much when it comes to nightlife. This particular place is always fun. You can sit and enjoy the live bands or take a seat on the patio. I like this place because of the friendly staff and comfortable atmosphere. Sure it's not like the pubs in the city and they can't pore beer for...

  • Don't Forget Insurance

If your current health insurance doesn't cover you while your abroad, you should consider getting international travel insurance just in case something should go wrong.

Port Elgin Transportation

  • Planes, Trains and Automobiles

The Port Elgin Airport is a small but convinient way to travel to and from the town for some of the visitor's. It operates 7 days a week during the months of June/July/August, only on weekends during the off season and is closed between the months of November to April.

  • Location

It's a 3 and a half hour drive for me from Toronto/Pickering but as you can see the location is great. Far enough away from the city but close enough to reality!

  • The Station

Young or Old The Station is for everyone who wants to get a quick tour of the harbour and surrounding areas. It's a fun and inexpensive way to see it all. 4$/child or 5$/adult will grant you full view of the lake, the beach, the little parks, the boats as well as the restaurants and fishermen!
