Port Stanley Things to Do

  • Wander about town

We drove to the top of the hill behind the small beach and wandered around the houses. It is a mix of permanent residents, summer homes, art studios and the like. In September, it is hard to imagine what it would be like in high season. We also drove and wandered around town. Of course there is the normal tourist fare - restaurants, accommodations,...

  • Walk the beaches

We are always searching out beaches to wander barefoot. In Port Stanley there is a long beach to walk west of town. We visited in September, and we had the beach primarily to ourselves. Still we got to walk two or three kilometres and skip round rocks into Lake Erie and play footsie with the sand. Unfortunately, we don't do beach walks with camera...

Port Stanley Restaurants

  • The Lobster of Lake Erie

After a morning of walking the Lake Erie beach, we were interested in lunch. Suzie's had this sign about "The lobster of Lake Erie!", so we had to try that. The meals turned out to be fish and chips, but quite tasty. It is a local, small town restaurant, open on a out-of-season weekday (not all the restaurants were), so we were quite satisfied.

With it's open concept, you can sit on one of the many decks for lunch/dinner and cocktails, participate in a game of beach volleyball on one of GT's 4 nets, right on the beach! Music and live bands entertain every weekend in the summer. The food is great. It's hard to say what my...

This gift shop is also features the work of Jonathon Hayes. This local artist has created a name for himself in and outside of Port Stanley. He is known for his extreme attention to detail. He once said that there is easily one million brush strokes in each painting.
You may purchase originals or Limited Edition S/N prints.

What to buy: There are a lot of local artists and galleries in town. Many antique and gift shops are located in downtown Port Stanley.

The Pierside pub frequently has a band named "TROLE". If you're in the neighborhood on a weekend that they are in town..go see them perform! These guys are so full of energy and they seem to share it with their audiences.
You will see Trole make it big some day..so see them now in a small venue setting before it's too late!

Favorite thing: My favorite thing about Port Stanley is definately the Beach! Once you get to the beach, there are many things to do besides just swimming and sunbathing. Join in on a game of beach volleyball, rent jet skies or paddleboats, have lunch/dinner at GT's on the Beach, or try the famous Mackie's Fries...it's never ending!
