In the summer months there are free outdoor concerts on Wednesday nights at the park. The bands are local...just bring your lawn chair or towel and sit back, relax and enjoy the tunes!
For a list of what bands are playing see the website.
Dress Code: Very casual - wear whatever you're most comfortable with. Bring a jacket or sweater since it can cool off quickly near the lake.

If you like the small sports bar atmosphere then this is the place to go. Live Bands such as Thunder Bay recording band Rabbit Mountain play there twice a month delivering the best in Classic Rock and Country Rock.
Friendly people, no rowdy's and a favourite hangout for University Students letting their hair down on the weekend.
Dress Code: Whatever you want to wear.

The Outpost (or "the post") is Lakehead University's campus bar. On tankard tuesdays you can get a tankard (3 beer) for $5. It's a casual night. Thursdays is pub night, dress up for some dancin. No cover for students.
Roxy's (on Memorial) is popular for Friday and Saturday night dancing, but also has wet t-shirt night on Wednesdays.
Scuttlebutts is a great Saturday night. There's always an amazing live band playing. I have to warn you though, there will be cougars out in full swing and the drinks are a bit more expensive compared to other bars. Also, there are bear skins, dear heads, fish (maybe even a rhino?) and a canoe on the walls. Definitely an experience.
Armani's (downtown F.W.) is fun for Saturday nights, but sometimes isn't as packed as it could be. Scuttles steals the heat.
Only other dance bar is Eight-o-seven located in downtown P.A. (used to be the Alamo, Wiseguys). They have cheap drinks before 11 on Saturday, but it's a large space that's hard to fill. They have stripper poles and a cage to dance with.
There are a lot of bars/pubs in tbay that host live bands if you want a more intimate, sitting experience. There are too many of those to name.
If you ever want to know where to go out, ask a student, they go out a lot.

Sadly I can't recommend any bars in Thunder Bay and would not recommend coming here if that is what you are looking for. There are some bars and clubs but they are of fairly low quality....But if you feel you must go after being warned.....
The University Outpost is probably the best choice and is usually packed on thursday night, open from Sept - April.
Warp 9 (formerly known as the Zoo formerly known as Coytees) On memorial Ave, busy on Wed and Fri
Scuttlebuts - Arthur St, An older crowd at this bar, a genuine Cougar lair, becareful!
You have been warned!!11
Dress Code: What ever you like

The Inntowner is a hard rocking bar/motel which usually has live music. A real Thunder Bay experience. Be careful: clientele are not always on their best behaviour. Bar fights are common.
NOTE: The bar is virtually deserted every night except Sunday. Sunday nights I advise arriving at 9pm; by 11 there's a long line.
Dress Code: No code. Just jeans are fine, though if you're cruising, show more skin.

Lakehead University's campus pub is packed on Thursdays, LU's official pub night (closed summers and Christmas holidays). Listen to local radio stations for news on concerts; the Outpost showcases the best of live Canadian rock.
Dress Code: Jeans and a sweater. Definitely casual.

If you're into the whole hippy-type scene, check out this place. It's small, but there are many nice people there, live entertainment (from jazz to punk, to rock), and it has a very laid-back atmosphere.
On Wednesday nights they have Jam Night. there's usually a nice turn-out then.
Order some food, sip on some coffee, chug back a beer, meet some different people.
And try their nachoes!
Dress Code: No need to get dressed up at all, unless you want to be given funny looks all night. Go as yourself.

Kilroy's is a sports bar. They have a huge screen tv and dozens of small ones. Mondays and Thursdays are really popular nights to show up on, as both of those evenings are cheap-drink nights! $2.00 for domestic beers and drinks! They have good, cheap food to order too! The music isn't bad either. Hardly any live entertainment, though. There's a dance floor, but noone ever uses it. But what do you expect from a sports bar? They've got pool tables, air hockey, fuse ball, video games, and computer touch-screen games.
Dress Code: Dress casually or risk looking like a fool!

Fun club to go to on Fridays and Saturdays. Live entertainment... and good music is played during breaks. It's fun to dance there. The bands are alright, but sometimes they can end up being real crap local ones who still live in the 80s. Clientelle is usually aged between 20-30, but there are still older people who show up sometimes too. Good place if you like loud, danceable music.
Dress Code: Some people like to dress up, some try, and some come looking like bums. It's up to you, but I'd recommend putting on something nice.

This place has karaoke night from Thursday to Saturday every week, and that's what makes it fun and gets people coming in. There are several older people there (30+), but occasionally you'll bump into or meet younger people. The prices are alright, and they've got a small dance floor.
BUT... beware or the crappy service! They enjoy taking their sweet-ass time serving you your drinks! It's a bit of a seedy establishment, but if you're drunk enough, you'll have a good time!
Dress Code: Extreeeeeeemely casual.
