Shania Twain Centre! I have the greatest admiration for Shania, being a musician myself, for her talents! And, it floored me a few years ago, when I found out she was from my Dad's home town of Timmins! Well, Timmins should be very proud of her, and I think this is a good start, but, it just opened last summer, and they could add a lot more. So, I will also include this under 'tourist traps', for now! I just hope that Timmins will develop and promote this. By the way, that is me on the right, and a cardboard cut-out of Shania on the left! hehe!
Shania is a world class superstar, and really deserves this kind of tribute to her by her hometown. The facility is very modern, and has the room, but right now, it seems lacking in its exibits! I am sure they will add more!
Air Canada/Air Ontario, will get you there, and they are courteous, professional, and you will have good flights! The aircraft is DeHaviland Dash-8 a small craft propeller plane, which at first, looks scary. But it is a great craft, and once you are in the air, you will feel confident!By car, or snowmobile!more

Well I could tell you a million! Remember, I am American born, but half Canadian by heritage! And I am proud of it! I just don't get up there, as much as I would like to!
I will just tell you one funny experience I had when my dad and I were ready to pay the tab at East Side Mario's.
I had a Canadian 10 dollar bill, and wanted to break it so I could get some change. The waitress asked me what kind of change do I want? I said, as you typically might in the states, 'a five, and five ones'! She said, 'how 'bout a five, two toonies, and a looney!' I said, 'what'! It was great!
I mean, I knew what a looney was, but I didn't know about a toonie, and she said it so fast! We all had a great laugh about it!
Winter nights can get very cold, and vehicles manufactured for Canada, have engine block heaters. You plug them in at night, and it keeps the oil and coolant warm, so when you go to start your engine in the morning, it will turn over easier!Motels have an outdoor receptacle at each parking space to facilitate that!If you didn't know about this, you...more
Dress warm in the winter! It gets cold up there! In the summer it gets warm. No problem getting film or developing. Wal-Mart in the Timmins Square Mall. Away from Timmins, out in the bush, there are blackflies in the summer. Nasty insects, which will bite you and you don't even know it, until later when you start itching. In certain areas,...more

Try to take a tour of a gold mine. Unfortunatly, not to many are still operational. But it is an interesting, and essential part of Timmins history. I know my cousin is still working at Kidd Creek, and my other cousin at the Dome, but he sounded like he hopes to get his last few years in now, for retirement. This is a photo of the recently closed and historic McIntyre!
Meet my relatives! So many of them in Timmins! Here is part of my heritage! My cousin Bobby, and his wife and daughter! Bobby could have turned NHL pro, but gave it up for family life! And that girl on the right is his daughter, who I introduced to VT. She is the only VT member from Timmins! She plays in a girls hockey league called 'Ringlettes'!more
