    St Edmunds Museum - Tobermory

by chetongueek Written Jul 14, 2012

The St. Edmunds Museum is just south of Tobermory on Hwy #6. It was built as the first school house in 1898 and was converted to a museum in 1967.
This museum shows the culture of the people as it developed in isolation over the past 100+ years. It highlights the lumbering, fishing and marine industries. There are lots of artifacts that show the lifestyle of the people. An old log cabin sits on the grounds (not open to the public at this point) which was built by one of the original settlers and is the home of the first white girl born on the entire Bruce Peninsula.
It is a fascinating look at the past and how it affects the present and the future.
This is a small-town, low-tech museum. The admission is by donation.
I can't help thinking of "the more things change, the more they stay the same" as I wandered through the St. Edmunds Museum in Tobermory, Ontario.

    Bruce Peninsula National Park

    by Amanda-v Written Jan 25, 2008

The Bruce Peninsula National park is an absolute must see. It's one of the most beautiful and breath taking places I've been. To get there you take a 45 minute hike along side many lakes that make beautiful views as you make your way to the peninsula. Once there make sure to go to the look point at the end it's on top of a rock ledge. This makes it perfect to look over the beautiful atmosphere. You will see the turquoise blue lake Huron, deep gray rock formations and when you look down you will see thousands of white rock. Once your done taking it all in you should go down and enjoy what it has to offer you. You can either go back to the path and take safe stairs down, or if you like you can just climb down. It's not that difficult since the ledge only ascends about 8 feet above. Once down whatever way you chose there are many things to do.
    1) Take a swim in the water (which by the way is cold)
    2) If your feeling brave you could cliff jump of the rocks
    3) Explore the "grotto" which is a cave you can get to either by a tunnel or by swimming (tunnel located on top of rock formation)
    4) Climb the rock formations
    5) Soak in the sun
I would personally recommend going to the "grotto". As well there is a ledge in there that you may jump off.

    Cyprus Lake

by jamiesno Written Jul 14, 2006

Cyprus Lake offers 242 campsites in three campgrounds. I didn't get to go camping, I just got to see Cyprus Lake from the trail unroute to the Grotto. But this did look like a great lake with lots of birds around. It would be a beautiful place to make home for a day or to. Have fun!

    The Grotto...

There are coastal caves along the escarpment but The Grotto is a local favorite as the cave has an opening onto the trail itself from above, making it possible to hike down into it.
