Weather, Toronto

Favorite thing: Returning home from Toronto provided me with a new experience in all my many years of plane travel. The snow and ice conditions meant the airplane had to go through a de-icing station before it could take off. I was mesmerised with the cranes coming towards me - whenever I ask for a window seat its invariably over the wing :rolleyes: Most attempts at capturing the action through the cabin window ended up in a fog as the de-icer spray hit the window just as I pressed the camera lens against the window - typical!

Favorite thing: So winter here in Toronto... this is what my street looked like at 8 am on December 9th 2005.

Oh yes it all looks very pretty, but I assure you mukking through it all isn't very fun. Especially since it shall loose that pretty white glow in about an hour!

I find Jan - March the coldest months, often with very gloomy skies...not really a "favorite" thing!

Fondest memory: Of course we all still talk about the year Mel Lastman brought in the Army to "fight the snow."

I will confess that seeing the side streets packed with five to six foot snow banks was pretty crazy. The great thing about the snow here, is that it is really moist. Good packing snow for snowmen, forts and snow balls!

Favorite thing: Be prepared for the seasons all year round.

It can be 30C in March, or we can have overnight frost up to May 24th. September/October are generally cool and comfortable, but can also be high 20'sC.

The in-between seasons, you really have to prepare for both warm and cool.

Favorite thing: In fall and spring, the weather is cold but not too cold (around 0 celcius), dry, and there isn't much snow. If you're not used to cold weather, definitely bring warm clothes (winter coat, sweater, boots, etc). In summer, it can go from warm to extremely hot. Sometimes there are heat waves and the temperature goes over 30 Celsius.

Favorite thing: Take a warm coat! We were there in October, going north from Ohio, and we heard it was reasonable to guess it would be 10 degrees cooler - make that more like 30 degree's cooler! We froze as it dropped to 38 degrees one afternoon while we were there. Oh, and don't forget if you hear the temperature and they say it's 12 outside - that's in Celcius! Add 32.

Fondest memory: Going up in the tower - our toddler screamed as she realized the glass floor was just that! Kind of scary!
