Nightclubs and bars: A Fun Night at the Bar
The Madi is in a converted Victorian home. It's got 4 floors, 3 outdoor patios, and I honestly can't even count the rooms inside. The stairwells are steep and crooked, and the rooms are joined by narrow hallways or bridges. All the different rooms have a different feel (English pub, sports room, piano bar). The food is good and the beer flows freely. This place gets packed on weekends, so get there early if you intend to get a table. There is a guy who plays the piano (we call him the piano man) and sings (really well) and takes requests--sometimes the whole room sings along. The Madi is for laid-back fun. No cover, people 21 and under have to show 2 pieces of ID.

Nightclubs and bars: Brit-Pop on College
One of the best rock-music clubs in the city and located along trendy College St. The crowd is in their 20's and everyone is there to have fun. Cool music, happy people, and average-priced drinks for Toronto. Cover $10. Either be on guest list or arrive early (before 11) or else be prepared to wait upwards of an hour to get in. The party starts at midnight.

Pretty much anything goes. I've seen people in jeans and running shoes to those fully decked out in designer clothes. You'll be most comfortable in jeans and a lighter top because it can get pretty hot inside.

Nightclubs and bars: The Phoenix: lived in the 80's and looking for wor
Having been inside the night club originally and then having been denied access the next weekend by the same bar staff (after having had the same amount of drinks) was odd to say the least. The night club itself is passable in that it lives for the 80's - we won't mention the homicides that take place on Sunday...no doubt aiming for the moronic bouncers! The drink prices are average but the location sucks so you pay a fortune for cabs and for GAWDS sake, don't trip up the ubersteep walkway (that's how I failed the sobriety test the 'rent a cop' claims). I would suggest going to Devil's or Milestones. Slightly more trendy, slightly better local and less of a power trip happening

If you dress too nice, you won't fit in with the trash. If you dress too trashy, you'll just want to stay in your p.j.'s!

  • Great little place to listen to some live jazz, dance a little and have some tapas-style food and drinks. Food is very good, although it gets expensive if you order several tapas. Lots of martinis and great mojitos. Busy pretty much every night, really busy on the weekends. Different band every night (Mon-Sat); small cover. See website for entertainment listings, band video clip samples, menu etc.

Casual is fine, although people do tend to dress up a little.

Nightclubs and bars: Live Jazz in Toronto
This is the premier jazz club in Toronto. The top local talent appears at the Rex, along with top-notch touring performers who sometimes just drop in. If you enjoy good live music, then be sure to visit The Rex.

    Semi-casual.

Nightclubs and bars: A great gathering place!
A gay bar that has expanded over the years. A great place to meet friends. The music is always good. The place attracts all ages and walks of life. A great place to go when going "out on the town". This latest time we showed-up they had a silent auction and show to collect funds for Casey House. The show: only the drag queens can offer the glam and the glitz for the affair! We always enjoy the humour and the performances. Jackae is one of the best ones.

Nightclubs and bars: Stand Up Comedy!
If you haven’t heard of Yuk Yuks yet you should get ready. It’s a chain of stand up comedy bars across Canada. I’ve always wanted to go to one and finally got to experience it in Toronto during and overnight stay there. I was walking up Richmond Street after the Lord of Rings show and found the place. It was only $17 to get a ticket in, so I took advantage of the opportunity. I got the last two acts and one of those was the feature. JP or Jean Pierre was the first and then came what I call shock comedian John Rouse [http://www.jasonrouse.com/]. Both where hilarious but be warned Jason Rouse’s show is extreme. He pushes the bar and might not be for everyone because it gets worst, worst and worst and the police never show up. He is conceivably the devil. I don’t want my site on VT to be removed so I can’t repeat any of his jokes or it will change the rating of VT. On this Saturday night the place was blocked and it looked like I was lucky to find a seat. Here is a warning. Once the show starts if you get up out of your seat, you are asking for trouble and don’t say you were not warned. You are going to stick out and you become the target. Poor soul after soul couldn’t control their bladder and in hind sight probably would of pissed themselves. Once you get your seat there are plenty of waitresses running the tables getting drinks. I love humor though and seen these shows on television before but it’s not the same as being there live. Definitely go and you’ll be done the show by midnight or so, giving you time to still hit some of the dance clubs on Richmond Street.

    Nightclubs and bars: Clubbing
The Rex, I hear is pretty good, I don't know if there is a dress code or not, but I know that the Docks does'nt have one and it's located on Lakeshore (Downtown).

  • Theme: Nightclub
  • Directions: most you can find easily on a friday and saturday night from the line up's, but most of the clubs are around King St. and Queen St.
