 | Toronto Restaurants | Tips 821 - 830 of 910 | | We ate at Gretzky's after coming across it's website before travelling to Toronto. The menu is varied with something for everyone. There is ice skating memorabilia everywhere in the bar and restaurant which I'm sure would be interesting to any skating fans. We stopped in the bar for a beer in the afternoon, after visiting the C.N. Tower, we then returned in the evening for a meal.
My Wife and I both ordered a starter which left us with a problem. They were too big to eat and still have room for your main course but too delicious to leave. We had to call it quits just to leave room for the main course which was just as good. The place was busy and noisy when we arrived but quietened down later. The service was very good and once things were not so hectic our waiter took the chance to stand and chat for 1/2 hour. Worth a visit even for non-skating fans. It's open late, it's cheap, and it serves the best vietnamese beef soup around. Try it. NOW!

This restaurant is truly a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit of Toronto's Asian immigrant communities. The locale is a former Burger King (it moved a few doors down) and the new owners did not change the décor. Although the logos are gone, it still has the ugly colour scheme and uncomfortable furniture of a fast food restaurant. The menu is in fact a collection of digital pictures pasted on the wall with captions in Korean and English. Order by telling the guy at the cash the number of the dish you want. Nevertheless, the food is delicious and momma cooks it up fresh for you. All the dinner plates come with not-so-traditional Korean side dishes: rice, kimchi, tofu with soy sauce, marinated bean sprouts and greens and, for some reason, a large helping of macaroni salad. The price is very cheap, however, and you'll leave full and satisfied.
The bulgogi (suatéed beef stirfry) is great and can be made spicy or mild. On Fridays you can get the "dinner special": CAD20 for two dinners and a bottle of soju or 5 beers. Only get the soju if you can handle alcohol stronger than vodka. Outstanding food and ambiance. The feel is east coast crab shack with some west coast elegance. The menu consist mainly of fresh fish and seafood. Great oyster bar with a large variety of fresh oysters and a live tank filled with lobsters and crabs. My favorites are the crab cakes and the grilled jumbo black tigers. Salt cured duck carpaccio and the parfait de foie gras are incredible. Great spot for a romantic dinner or just for a splurge of oysters and a glass of bubbly. Summertime patio for a romantic outdoors dinner.
Lobster roll is amazing. The dish looks like an Asian spring roll but the skin is made of pear and is quite the surprise when you taste it for the first time. This is a great neighbourhood trattoria, with a colourful, almost zany approach to design and decoration. In the summer time the large patio is a great spot for people watching, and who could resist sitting in the glow of Honest Ed's circus like exterior! With Toronto being known for famous restaurants you might not go out of your way to eat here, but if you are in this area and don't feel like sushi or Korean BBQ this is a good option. I also love that you can buy a 1/2 litre of wine at Rocco's. Sometimes that is hard to find in Toronto although many have half bottles.
The pancakes with bacon were great today, and I am told the omlette was equally tasty. Brunch portions are plentiful and the menu makes me wish I liked eggs, but everything seems to be served with potatoes and a "mini fruit kabob" --which was really a piece of strawberry and a piece of cantaloupe on a tooth pick. I will go back for brunch again. I have also had a very tasty pizza here (thin crust) and the seafood antipasta. Brunch items range in price from 6.00 to 9.00 dollars CDN. A & W burgers are extremely tasty. They are usually found at the food section of malls. Leave a Comment

Food?? what food??!!! As the name suggests, you don't really go to the Bier Markt for food, because literally, that's what it is, a hulargerous market of beer. It's in the lovely Esplanade area where all the British/Irish pubs are, and it's pretty great for its beer selection. Something silly like 300 kinds of lager or something crazy like that, their beer menu alone is like a book. I've been a few times, it's a lot of fun when you go with a bunch of people and just keep trying a different beer from every country you could possibly think of. There's live music on the weekends, and it can get super ultra packed, I've been on a weekday and a weekend, quite different experiences both because of the number of people that were there, but the beer was definitely good.
Hmmmmm, just the beer please! I liked the Hoegarden, the glass it came in was almost as big as my head :) Now THAT, is my kind of pint glass Leave a Comment Theme: Pub/BreweryAddress: 58 The Esplanade, toronto, ONPhone: 416-862-7575Directions: About at the corner of Church Street near the Toronto's waterfront
