 | Toronto Things To Do | Tips 21 - 30 of 1555 | | | | | | ROM / Royal Ontario Museum: Royal Ontario Museum | Tip Rating: | | | | |
Currently undergoing a restoration designed by world renowned architect David Libeskind, the ROM is following an ambitious plan to rejuvenate energy into Canada's largest museum. Looking like a "burst of crystals", Libeskind's design will serve as a landmark in Toronto & give the ROM a dynamic entrance. The ROM, formerly a part of the University of Toronto, holds over five million artifacts. Though it may not be able to compare to world class museums like the MET or the Louvre, the ROM does offer an interesting collection to enjoy. From galleries of art, to archaeology and science, the ROM should have an area or areas of interest for everyone to enjoy. My favourites are the ancient Eygptian & Chinese collections. On Friday nights, from 4:30 - 9:30 pm, the ROM offers free admission into the museum's exhibits except the specially ticketed ones. For latest admission information & museum hours, please click here. | | | | Flatiron building: The Famous & Scenic Flatiron Building | Tip Rating: | | | | |
I think it's pretty safe to say that in the midst of modern, towering buildings the Flatiron Building is a refreshing look to the past. It certainly is unique in its appearance and is also unique for the land that it occupies. Built in the 1800's, it is reported to be the most expensive office space in Toronto. So, naturally, it is at the top of my list for my planned Toronto office. Right! Just check the registry and you'll likely find my "How You Doin'?" Talent Agency! We specialize in Clowns & Idiots and our company philosophy begins at the very top and trickles down, and down, and down... Enough of self-promotion... If you're in Toronto, you'll likely enjoy the view of this famous Flatiron Building. As a special bonus, there are other neat attractions, restaurants, markets, shops, and scenic sights to behold all in this same area. Stay tuned and you'll learn more about them! | | | | Metro Toronto Zoo: Come see my animal friends! | Tip Rating: | | | | |
** Please Note ** You will not be able to see any Polar Bears at TZ for a while. Currently under construction is a brand new Tundra Exhibit, and when it is finished it should be amazing. Featuring the Artic Fox, Caribou and of course everyone’s favourite...Polar Bears! Also the construction in Australasia building is still ongoing and will hopefully be finished soon... Featuring a 27 foot shark tank, a Great Barrier Reef Exhibit, and a free standing circular jelly fish tank. Currently The Toronto Zoo is featuring two baby Siberian Tigers, two baby Orangutans and make sure to say hi to my Gorilla boyfriend Sadiki, who is about one and a half. ************************************************* Divided into zoo-geographic regions and spanning 287 hectares the Toronto Zoo opened in 1974 and is home to more than 5000 animals, making it the third largest zoo in the world. A not for profit organization funded by the City of Toronto, zoo members and donors, the initial idea to exhibit and conserve not only at the zoo but also in the wild is still paramount. There are 460 different species of animal here, a massive plant collection and 10 km of walking trails that meander through the buildings as well as the forest of the Rouge Valley where the zoo is located. This is a full day excursion, so bring your walking shoes, some water and a lunch, or lunch money. I have been a volunteer tour guide (school groups only) since 2004, so if you have any questions... if I don't know the answer, I can find someone who does! Better to drive, but you can take public transit. Take the Bloor/Danforth subway east to the last stop of Kennedy. Go upstairs to the Bus' and take the 86A. Make sure to get on the 86 "A", it will take you right to the entrance, just bring a book. It will be at least 1 hour transit ride. | | | | St. Lawrence Market: St. Lawrence Market- Worth the Visit! | Tip Rating: | | | | |
When Ryan (VT Member RSRaz) suggested a group of us visiting VT'ers might enjoy a trip to the St. Lawrence Market, boy was he right! Not only is the St. Lawrence Market near and in the midst of many other interesting destinations, but what an eye-opening experience for me, and I didn't get to see all! In the short time we had here (45 minutes) my head was pulled in so many directions and my camera could not keep up with my eyes, but I tried my best to give you some flavor of the place and hopefully a greater incentive to make this a destination when in Toronto. You don't have to buy anything (I didn't), you can simply enjoy the diversity, color, and pagentry of a well-done market that works in many ways. In this group of pictures you will see the exterior of this bustling market and that's not bad either! There is also a downstairs level to the main building and an annex across the street. I did not have time to visit the lower level, but I hope if you come here, you will and take pictures so that I can see what I missed! I won't miss it the next time, I promise! I do have pictures of both the inside and outside of the annex across the street, so come along with me and enjoy the sights, smells, sounds, and sensations of the St. Lawrence Market!
