Always try to check this always busy place if there's any performances going on. Lots of activities, gatherings, parties and street performances around. Eaton centre is just across the street and restaurants as well as shops are all around this place, The hardrock cafe is also nearby.
Dundas Square is the newest square in the downtown core. It's an excellent place for concerts and events.
The two rows of water fountains are the most interesting items in the square. Controlled by computer, the fountains can "dance" and there are special lightings at night as well.
If I had to pick a central point in Toronto (I am sure many people will disagree), it would probably be Dundas square. It is at the intersection of Yonge and Dundas and is a very busy area.
There are often street performances, concerts and other kinds of entertainment. Occasionally there are fairs/flea markets as well.
It is close to several restaurants (you can check my recommendations for the Senator, Hard rock cafe, Barberians, Pickle Barrel, etc), right next to the Eaton centre, at the busiest part of Yonge street and right next to a subway stop.
My hotel on both occasions (Bond Place) was also right next to the square, so this was the starting point for my journeys.
I find it interesting just to stand there and observe all the movement, specially at night when the whole square lights up from the giant screens and the billboards.
