  • Tip Rating:
  • I prefer planes, but some living closer may choose Greyhound... Although there are only 3 subway lines in Toronto it seemed to be the best way to get almost everywhere. But buses and streetcars are really comfortable and not overcrowded (like in Warsaw for instance). Metro Pass (lasts for a month) cost me 88$ (CAD) in 2000, now it might be slightly more expensive. If you decide not to buy it - remember to take transfer tickets while getting off a bus, a streetcar or leaving a subway station - otherwise you'll have to use up another ticket when you take another mean of transportation in the same direction(transfer allows you to take several lines to get to your destination paying just once).

  • Tip Rating:
  • Flying into Toronto was pretty easy. Several airlines have non-stop service from major US cities. I flew on Air Canada and it worked out fine.

    Toronto Pearson International...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Toronto Pearson International Airport It's undergoing construction at the moment, building a new terminal which is supposed to make it bigger and better. Right now it's just tying up traffic though. But here's a link with all the info you'll need: Pearson Airport

If you intend to fly into...
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you intend to fly into Toronto, you'll probably be landing into Lester B. Pearson International Airport, which is actually far, far away in Mississauga. (It's actually not that far distance-wise at 27km from downtown, but add in the wonderful T.O. region traffic and it could take hours) For a more fun, downtown landing try and get a flight to the downtown airport; you'll probably be seated in a 30-person plane and as you land, you feel like you're going for a crash course into Lake Ontario. Family Fun From the airport, there's a ferry that crosses the water and ta-da! you're a 5$ cab-ride away from Union Station and downtown Toronto! Can you see the tiny little plane about to land? I think that time it actually missed the airport, went back up, and started again:)

To get to this lovely city,...
  • Tip Rating:
  • To get to this lovely city, unless you are from the general Southern Ontario area or if you're doing a cross country road trip, I would recommend flying. Its relatively inexpensive (of course, depending where you are flying in from) and safe. The best way to get around downtown Toronto is by public transportation - TTC. It's not the cheapest way to get around but since it can be a little far to walk from area to area, I recommend this method. I would try to avoid driving downtown during the day as they usually charge an arm and a leg for parking and the traffic just generally sucks. When downtown, walking is the easiest way to get around to see the sights. If you are travelling within the Greater Toronto Area and you're going from one end of the city to another, I would suggest going by car as the TTC does take forever when going long distances and you can see more of the city this way.

Fly. For me, there was no other option. If you're flying from London, it's possible to fly for around £200 - but caveat emptor. I once spent 11 hours waiting at the closed Mirabel airport because the hamster that was running the engine for the charter flight I was on, died. On foot. The streetcars and subway are plentiful, buti I spent most of my time walking. It's very flat - downtown, anyway - and is a lovely place to stroll around. If you're there in winter, it might take a while to get used to the ice, but other than that, it's fine.
