I have been wanting to check out the Lunch Buffet at the TEUTONIA CLUB for quite a while so today, Thursday, Hans and I went. They offer a Lunch Buffet every Thursday and Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and it costs $8.50.
I will start off with the soup and salad bar. A big pot of tomato soup looked yummy. The salad bar consisted of lettuce greens, with croutons, bacon bits and about five kinds of dressings. Also there was potato salad, cole slaw, chopped up hard boiled eggs.
The main dishes included penne, red cabbage, German sausage and saurkraut, lightlly battered fish and a beef stew.
Dessert included apple strudel, cherry strudel and a large bowl of fresh fruit - grapes - melon - cantaloupe.
Coffee was extra at $1.50.
All in all very good.
Favorite Dish: Friday night, between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. they also offer Schnitzel, goulash, spatzie or Fish and chips for $11.00.
Sunday Brunch 11:30 to 2:30 for $10.95

Hans and I just tried out a new restaurant in town. It's called the MICHIGAN DINER. The interior is bright with lots of windows and the tables and chairs are simple yet comfy in Roadhouse Style. The menu had your typical hamburgers, sandwiches, chicken, ribs and perch. The day's special was 2 for 1 wings for $6.99, Meat Loaf with soup for $6.50 and all you can eat perch for $13.99. Hans had Half Slab of Ribs for $10.99 which came with french fries, a generous portion of cole slaw and a fresh roll. He said the ribs were delicious. The fries - probably frozen - were so so. I had the special of the day - Meat Loaf which consisted of five slices of meatloaf with gravy and two slices of bread. It was very good. The creamy mushroom soup which came with it was awesome, with tons of mushroom pieces in a dreamy thick broth. We both enjoyed our meal very much and will certainly be back.

Well we came back. We wanted to try the three piece broasted chicken for $7.79. It was delicious. Broasted chicken is not greasy, so much better for you than fried. The meal came with a generous portion of cole slaw, a fresh roll and we both had a dish of mashed potatoes.
Michigan Diner advertises "large portions at yesterdays prices". Well, they must be doing something right as it was very busy at lunchtime on a Thursday.
Seniors menus 3-6 p.m.
Open Tuesday - Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

One of our favourite restaurants for seafood is RED LOBSTER. We go there for lunch once a month. We always order the same thing. Hans has the Lunch Create-a-Sample for $8.25. You have the choice between Garlic shrimp Scampi, Fish - fried or broiled., Chicken Fingers, Fried Shrimp, Bay Scallops - broiled or fried & Fried Clam Strips. I always have the Fried Fish at $6.50 which gives you 3 generous portions of fish, your choice of sides and mixed vegetables. Choice of sides are: seasoned french fries, mashed potato, baked potato with or without sour cream & butter, cole slaw, mixed vegetables. For $1.79 extra you can have the Caesar salad or Garden Salad with your choice of dressing. Another extra served at Red Lobster are baskets of garlic buns which are delicious especially when they're hot out of the oven. Lunches are always served in a timely matter as many business people come here on their lunch hour and they do have guaranteed quick service or you do not pay for your meal. Is that great or what!
Of course dinner is also served after 4 p.m.
Updates: March 4, 2010

While the decor leaves much to be desired, the food more than makes up for it. The price is unbeatable anywhere else in Windsor for the amount of food you get. You could get an appetizer, an entree and a drink for less than $15 per person. They also have a liquor license that some of the other places don't have. The owner, who is also the cook, always remembers your name and what you like to order. I like the mom and pop feel of the place and the food is very authentic. Not the Canadianized or fusion style food of other places claiming to be Vietnamese. This place serves exactly what is eaten in Vietnam.
Favorite Dish: I've tried almost everything on the menu, that's how much I love this place. My favourites if I had to choose would be the large and extra crispy spring rolls for an appetizer. You get four 6/7 inch long deep fried spring rolls for only $6. For an entree, it's a toss up between the classic Pho Dac Biet (Beef noodle soup special) with loads of thinly sliced beef brisket and other assorted meats, and the Vermicelli noodles which comes with lettuce, cucumber and bean sprouts under a bed of warm vermicelli noodles topped with your choice of bbq beef or pork and a spring roll and crushed, roasted peanuts. Both entreess are less than $10 each.

I would not be exaggerating if I told you that in the more populated sections of Ontario that there is a Tim Horton's at least every kilometer, if you put in a search radius of 5km from Windsor onto their website it comes up with 27 options!!!
Favorite Dish: On our 1st morning in Canada, we started out on a search for butter tarts but gave up trying to find a bakery and stopped at Tim Horton's for some donuts. Now I don't want to offend my Canucky friends as they surely must love Timmy's with the vast number of the stores but a lot of the donuts are like the equivalent to the US brand of Dunkin' Donuts-mass produced, a little chemically tasting. Don't even think about trying to buy them and have them for the next day, they will already taste stale. But there are a couple types that are worth the stop, I especially liked the caramel apple fritters with the gooey caramel that comes oozing out when you bite into it. And the maple frosted custard ones aren't bad either. But the rest? Just like Dunkin' Donuts and I don't mean that as a compliment.

Hans was really in the mood for Crab Legs, so we thought we would try BUFFET WINDSOR as they promoted their buffet which included crab legs.
The Sunday Buffet is $15.99.
I started off with Won Ton Soup which was just OK. Then I went for some peel-and-eat shrimp which were a good size and quite good, esp with the sweet seafood sauce.
I went for the hot items (they advertise over 150 items in the buffet). I have to say frankly, I did not put much on my plate, as there wasn't much that looked appetizing enough to put on my plate. Most of the dishes looked dried up and honestly looked like left-overs. In the beef stir-fry dish, the beef had black tips on them which usually means the beef is not fresh. The rice dishes looked dried up. The roast beef looked like a plop of you-know-what. Totally unappetizing.
The dessert table was pathetic - jello - cut-up cantaloupe - dried up tarts.
Hans did enjoy his crab legs though as they were cooked fresh, but they just put out a few legs at a time. At least he enjoyed his meal as that is mostly what he had.
I will never go back and eat there again.
Also available was dim sum and sushi.
Monday thru Thursday Dinner $13.99
Friday thru Sunday Dinner $15.99
