Granted the conditions were absolutely amazing when we went snowshoeing at the Boisé du Quai, which might explain why we enjoyed it so much, but even under less than perfect conditions I'd still recommend this spot for a nice snowshoeing experience in Baie-St-Paul. Located about 1 km away from Hotel La Ferme on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, this lovely wood features several trails that are yours to explore since the site is accessible free of charge. Despite how beautiful it is, the park doesn't receive that many visitors - we only met 4 other people during the couple hours we spent at the Boisé du Quai - and while I was amazed that so few people should visit this spot, its secret nature might also be one of its best features.
Le Massif de Charlevoix is one of Quebec's highest and steepest ski mountains. It is famous for the large quantity of snow it receives every winter and also for its amazing setting right on the St. Lawrence River. There are 52 skiing and snowboarding trails as well as an off-trail sector. A cross-country skiing trail also starts at the top of the mountain, and the newest activity offered is an exhilirating rodeling (luge) descent. There are two ski cottages, one at the base and one at the top of the mountain, and both feature a cafeteria and a pub.
