    Over the Precipice

There is a very nice viewing area on the side of the falls opposite from the Manoir restaurant. It provides you with an opportunity to get close to the lip of the falls as it plunges 270 feet while at the same time enjoying a different view of the foot bridge across the river! From there you can also see the outline of the man-made weir that runs across the river just before the water makes its final plunge. This weir is likely a remnant of some of the lumber and cotton mill industrial activities that were located at the Falls over the past couple of hundred years.

Provided you don't have a severe fear of heights, you should head up to the suspension bridge over the Falls for a different view. I always think it's really cool to see the perfectly calm waters leading up to the Falls and imagine the first of the river explorers calmly rowing along and then suddenly hearing a rush of water and furiously paddling to try and get to the side before plunging over the Falls to an almost certain death. Hmm, maybe I watched "Last of the Mohicans" a few too many times, I swear it wasn't because Daniel Day Lewis looked really hot with his shirt off.....

The bridge isn't nearly as wobbly as it looks like it might be from below, in fact there's barely any movement at all.

Three ways to get up there that I saw, via the stairs, all 478 (or 487) of them, via the cable car or you can drive up to the Manoir Montmorency and walk over.

    Walkway to the Falls

If you're not anxious to go up on top of the Falls for a better look, you can take the walkway leading from the visitors center to the viewing platform at the base of the stairs to get a better view. Be prepared to get a little wet from the mist the closer you go, some people came equipped with rain ponchos but honestly you don't get that wet.
