 | Montreal Nightlife | Tips 31 - 40 of 331 | | Nice place to chat and dance (on weekends, with DJs). Pool table and mini-soccer table. No food, but lots of peanuts (you'll see there is many all around the floor!!! Check your feet!).
No dress code, it is more like a Montreal pub. Leave a Comment Theme: Live MusicDirections: On the Plateau. St-Laurent Boul. corner Marie-Anne (just one street south of Mont-Royal). Very closed to the Mountain.Other Contact: 4328 boul. St-Laurent. http://ww

One of the only club that I like. Tokyo Bar is located on trendy St-Laurent blvd, although Tokyo is not a pretentious place at all. Just a a fun place to go with friends for a night of dancing. They have 2 rooms ( 1 is more techno/house/dance, the other one is more hiphop/top 40/live bands) and 2 roof top terraces. Their roof top terrace is awesome, you totally feel as if you were at a tiki bar in who knows...Indonesia or Hawaii. No cover charge for women before midnight. If not cover charge is like 8-10$. Their Hawaii 5-0 New years Eve Bash is also a blast and not expensive at all.
Nice. Fun. Hip. Trendy, but not snobby at all. Hurley's is a cozy irish pub. The hot tea and desserts are perfect for after dinner on a cold evening. I had to good fortune to catch Irish Storytelling night, a good sized group of irish men and women listening to blarney by an irishman with a thick brogue. Friendly english-speaking crowd and refreshing change if you become overloaded with french culture. Call them at 861-4111 or email info@hurleysirishpub.com for the schedule. Montreal's premier brewpub combines cosy conivial pub atmosphere with the best house brewed beers in town. Friendly locals and bar staff serve up to ten different beers on any give night and every one was a winner the night I was there to sample. If you have the munchies or just to cleanse you palate between beers, try their Quebec cheese platter with home baked bread. Read my travelogue for beer types and atmosphere.
Casual attire is the norm in this locals pub. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingAddress: 29 av. Laurier OuestPhone: (514) 490-9555Directions: Take bus 55 up St. Laurent or enjoy the uphill stroll if it's not too hot. At least the walk home is downhill!

This busy steet side cafe is a stand out even on cafe ladden St. Dennis with some stellar house brewed beers and a lively and boisterous crowd.
Casual but smart. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingAddress: 2049 rue St-DenisPhone: (514) 282-7448Directions: Right in the thick of the busiest area for nightlife.

This 50's dinner cum pulp fiction fantasy oozes atmosphere and live jazz during the Jazz Festival. The beers don't quite live up to expectations but I would still say it's a no miss for the visiting beer afficionado and anyone wanting to get a feel for the color of local nightlife.
Some bizzarely dressed characters here. Leave a Comment Theme: Live MusicAddress: 809 rue Ontario EstPhone: (514) 522-0211Directions: Right downtown, just a few minutes from cafe ladden St. Dennis.

Another great locals pub that brews excellent house beers, we had to practically drag our new local friend, Frederick to accompany us here. The place was packed on a Tuesday night and the cask conditioned beer I sampled was excellent.

Picture here to give an "impressionist" impression. I love the contrats between light and dark, modern and old, etc.

This Martini bar is ranked third in the world. The decor is retro 80's and they have an extensive Martini list. Each night of the week, there is a different theme. Monday's it is Swing dancing, with free lessons; Tuesdays it is Funky Ass Tuesdays, Thursdays it is House music.... Each night has a live band. There is a back area with pool tables. This area of the bar opens only after midnight. It is a small and personal bar/lounge. On Thursday nights, I found it got way too smoky. There is poor ventilation. However, after May 1, 2006 the no smoking laws come into effect, so this won't be a problem.
Hip, cool, modern, artsy, R&B... depends on which night you go. Mondays you can go in Swing dance sytle.... Leave a Comment
