L'Avenue: The Line Up is Worth The Wait
There's a reason why the lines are long and the tables are seldomly empty. Not only is the food here fantastic, but the plates are huge and reasonably priced at mainly under 15 dollars a person. The decor is kitschy but in a fun, retro-trendy kind of way. A motorcyle suspended from the ceiling, while a manaquin dressed in a tacky swimsuit greets you from the front window contrasts nicely with the sleek table setting designed to maximize space while still providing comfort. make sure you take a trip to the bathroom before you leave and watch some floor tv while you do your business:) A restaurant not to be misssed.
Favorite Dish: I've never met a dish here I didn't like, But their club sandwiches are especially good and come with a heaping serving of their homemade fries which are slightly sweet and delicious. they also have a huge assortment of milkshakes, smoothies and serve breakfast any time of the day. Pastas and Panninis also make the list and don't forget to try their delicious goat cheese salad.

L'Avenue: The Plateau in all it's glory
It was the first trendy place to set up it's front on Mont-Royal avenue.
And was so trendy in fact, that since then, the street is now one of Montreal's jewells, with all the other restaurants and stores coming over to join it's success.
It has an artsy/modern/somewhat eclectic looking interior. You might have to wait in line on a Saturday, it's so popular with the locals, but it's well worth it. The portions are so that you won't be hungry anymore afterwards, there's food for everyone's taste.
They have great breakfasts, as well as wonderfull lunch and dinner services.
By the way, it's trendy but relaxed and fun, so don't fret over your clothes. I love to go there with my friends.
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 7h00-23h00; Sat 8h00-23h00; Sun 8h00-22h00.
Favorite Dish: Everything that I've tasted was very good.
Even the salads served as meals are appetizing. Huge and delicious hamburgers. Great french fries. Asian inspired dishes. They have an international cuisine, so you can have your pick.
I recommend the gigantic exotic fruit juices.

L'Avenue: Nice local cuisine
I stumbled upon this restaurant on Avenue Mont Royale, a few blocks east of the Mont Royale metro stop. I'm very glad I did.
The menu had a number of offerings from chicken, to beef and several types of fish and seafood. The ambiance was quite nice too (and the waitress could speak some english!)
Oh - and this place had the coolest washroom I have ever seen (and I've seen some good ones!). Waterfalls (=urinal? I couldn't tell), all black, and a tv screen inlaid into the floor under your feet as you're on the pot!
Favorite Dish: I got the grilled chicken breast, braised with sauteed mushrooms in a rich, creamy Bechamel sauce. In fact, there was even a tureen on the side filled with more of these sauteed mushrooms.
The plate came with fries, but I got them to make it a salad - and what a salad! I swear it would have overflowed a trough! The dish was called the 'Poitrine Poulet Grille'.
Chicken in French is Poulet, but be careful - a friend of mine once thought he was getting chicken but ended up with Poutine! (see my local customs to see what this is)
