While up on Mont-Royale, my wife and I enjoyed a stroll on Summit Circle around these very affluent streets! This is where the 'money' in Montreal lives and they have the views to prove it! There is a very nice nature park at the very top of this section of the mountain. In addition, there are walking trails through the woods that let you wander over the top of the peak, or you can take the circular walk around the street - it does not take very long!

Et au parmy d'icelles champaignes, est scituée et assise ladicte ville de Hochelaga, près et joignant une montaigne... Nous nommasmes icelle montaigne le mont Royal.
= "And among these fields is situated the said town of Hochelaga, near to and adjoining a mountain... We named this mountain, Mount Royal."

And Mont Royal is a name I will carry until the end of my life. I am proud to be part of this incredible city!

The city of Montreal is built on an island with the centre being a small mountain (Mont Royal). This combination of island and hill gives a very picturesque view from the air. Mont Royal is actually a volcano (though dormant for centuries) is the centre of winter and summer activities for the locals. Beaver lake is built into what was the 'Mouth' of the volcano. Trails lead all over providing a country setting for peaceful walks or cyclying and with various areas that give good views onto the city itself.
Though not large in height or surface area, Mont Royal allows people the opportunity to 'get away' from their regular city life without going too far.
It makes it easy for all to enjoy natures gift to Montreal.

Directions: Access to Mont Royal is by foot, car and public bus. From the east, Park Avenue and Mont Royal street is the main entrance. From the west, entry is by Cote des Neiges road. Only one road (Camilien Hoo

I woke up early and hiked up to Mont Royal, but if you're interested in taking photos, I'd recommend coming up here in the evening when the sun will be at your back.

This statue guards the eastern entrance to the park along Avenue du Parc. You can take the Metro's Orange Line to the Mont Royal station and you'll be fairly close to this entrance. From the station you can hop on Bus 11 if you get a transfer (correspondance) before getting on the Metro or if you have purchased a tourist card which allows you to travel on all of the public transportation for a set time frame.

St Joseph Oratory, Mount Royal

On a wet afternoon our group went to Mount Royal to view St Josephs and the fine city view. Our city view was dampened by the misty rain and poor light but with a little imagination one could visualise how good the view would be on a fine and sunny day.

Climb to the top of Mont-Royal.
Mont-Royal is what people refer here to 'the mountain'. It's not really a mountain per se, but there are tons of activities in the summer. The park at the bottom is where hundreds of tam tam players jam on summer Sundays. Then hike (or drive) up the lookout point for a stunning view of the city. Climb higher and visit the huge, old Mont-Royal Cemetary. If you make it to the top, you'll reach the famed cross that you can see lit up at night from all over Montreal.

For a day in the sun, in the mountain, at Mt.Royal, they have the paddle boats! Yes- it costs money, but if you are on the Mountain it is a great thing to do with your children! (Click on the Picture to See a Large Version)
