Like it or not, the french (and I mean France) designed Olympic Stadium is a symbol of our city. There are some reasons to visit. It cost over a billion dollars :-) One is if you are actually going to an event "IN" the stadium. Another is if you want to visit the Biodome. But don't waste your time or money riding up the slanted tower. Totally boring, as far as I am concerned. On second thought, maybe you should go ... and help us pay for the darned thing.

Skip the slanted tower experience...and go to the Biodome. At least you will see a few seals and monkeys.

If you feel the need to go high, check out the restaurant/nightclub on top of Place Ville Marie. Great view of the city. If you feel the need to go high and circulate at the same time, check out the revolving restaurant on top of the Delta Hotel on University Street. I have no idea if the food is good. Is food ever good in revolving restaurants?

Olympic Village: The Big O is a Big Zero
  • Tip Rating:
  • For anyone considering the trek all the way out to the Olympic Village, it should be advised that the site of the 1976 Olympic Games has not seen a its share of upkeep in the last 25 years. It is a big dilapitated egg shell/spaceship. The 20 minute metro ride dumps you off at a dirty station under the stadium and signage is limited to point you to the tower, gardens and biodome.

If you have to go out there, it is worth taking a stroll in the botanical gardens. Especially during the Chinese Lantern Festival.

For an alternative outside the city core, take a bike ride along the Lachine Canal out to the Atwater Market.

Olympic Village: Le Biodome, at Viau metro...
  • Tip Rating:
  • Le Biodome, at Viau metro station (near the Olympic stadium). Le Biodome is like a national park, but inside. There, you can find all the micro-climate around the world (tropic, laurantian...). But the animals are badly kept. If you want to see those climates, I suggest you travel, don't encourage this oraganisation.

    Olympic Village: Biodome
It is the former velodrome cycling stadium in the Olimpic complex. The Botanic Garden is close to it: you can visit both in the same morning.

Olympic Village: The Olympic area: not exiting nor amazing.
Not a waste of time, but there's nothing you could call "special". Yes, there are some singular buildings, but, at least for me, it lacks of some kind of "soul"... but maybe it seemed that to me because there was nobody around, and the only activities opened were a visit to the building (paying) and a lift to the top of the tower to have some views...

Have a walk around, the park behind has also a couple of attractions...

Downtown and surroundings (Old Montréal, etc.) have more to show than this place. But you can spend here an hour or less, just to say you've been there...

Olympic Village: well, it's kinda a tourist trap, but still cool...
The Big "O" as we call it is the Olympic Stadium. It's this massive hunk of cement that the government built for the Olympics and for which we are still paying tax dollars for. Never mind that the thing is falling apart. While it's impressive to look at (even from a distance of let's say the mont royal) it's just a lot of cement. It's cool architecture is fun to check out if you are into that stuff, but if you aren't keen on that, I suggest looking at it from Mont Royal. Near the track and field area there are these cool areas to skateboard at, but other then that it's kind of a boring place to check out.

Walk around the building and you will most lkely find something cool architecture wise.

Go to Mont Royal and pay 25 cents or whatever it cost to view the Big O from a distance with those binocular thingies.

    Olympic Village: Sunday afternoon
The Olympic Village is situated on Sherbrooke street, at the Eastern end of the center. There you have the stadium (with its weird-looking tower), the biodome and the botanical garden.
